The Loftus stadium has seen it all in the past few games. First, it was the fall of the mighty Al Ahly (5-2) in the CAFCL Group B match, and now the tornado of the Sundowns wave has hit Royal AM on Tuesday night by a 5-1 score line.

Royal AM approached the match with so much naivety when they tried to match Sundowns toe-to-toe in the first 20 minutes. Cassius Mailula profited from Neo Maema’s failed control to slot home the opener, much to the delight of the Masandawana fans who were on the stands. This was Mailula’s 9th of the season and his 14th of the season in all competitions.

The Namibian international, Peter Shalulile, netted his 10th and 11th of the season to set himself apart from the chasing pack. According to SABC Sports journalist, Velile Mnyandu, Shalulile has attracted a move to Italy, which may see him join the likes of Percy Tau, Keegan Dolly, Bongani Zungu whom have left the Sundowns for greener pastures.

The last season’s top scorer of 23 league goals has been the most consistent player in the last 5 seasons in the PSL. Shalulile has finished top scorer twice and second top scorer twin e in the last 4 seasons. He looks likely to finish as top scorer again this season.

Sundowns profited from a Nascimento own-goal and a Mothobi Mvala header to complete the demolition of the KZN outfit.

The win against Royal AM stretched Sundowns lead back to 20 points ahead of neighbours SuperSport United, thus eliminating both Pirates and Chiefs (both in 3rd and 4th) in the title race.

Sundowns will switch their focus back to CAFCL against AL Hilal in Sudan as they look to cement their place at the top of the mini log. With Rulani Mokwena side already confirmed their place in the quarter finals, Sundowns may look to offer an opportunity to fringe players.

16 year old Siyabonga Mabena made his debut for Sundowns and thus becoming the youngest player to make his debut for Sundowns, ever. The youngster signed from School of Excellence joined Sundowns after showing great exploits in the Engen under 17 tournament and Amajimbos (SA u/17) squad during COSAFA Cup/AFCON qualifiers in Zambia.

In other match, Marumo Gallants held Cape Town City to a 2-all draw at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.

Striker Khanyisa Mayo who continues to impress Hugo Broos in the Bafana setup netted a brace whilst Lesiba Nku and Ranga Chivaviro took their CAFCC form to Cape Town to earn Gallants a precious point. They remain bottom of the log, one point away from relegation/promotion spot currently occupied by Maritzburg United.
