Hollywoodbets Super League

It has been a great footballing weekend in South Africa as all the attention has been on Hollywoodbets Super League fixtures around the country.

The biggest results came all the way from eThekwini when Durban Ladies earned themselves their biggest victory to date after beating Golden Ladies 5-1. This was the Durban side’s 6th win of the season.

Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies were held to a goalless draw, their 6th draw of the season, by First Touch Ladies.

Ma-Indies defeated newcomers City Lads 2-1 away in Eastern Cape.

The Super Sunday clashes and double-headers saw the Red Army of TUT Ladies win 1-0 against struggling Free State side, Tsunami Queens at the UJ Stadium in Johannesburg.

In the second fixture, UJ Ladies fought hard to defeat Thunderbirds 5-1 at home.

The rest of others could not play their fixtures as players are out with Banyana Banyana in Morocco for the African Woman Cup of Nations [AWCON].

Dr Danny Jordan has been re-elected as the SAFA President

Danny Jordan retained his SAFA presidency position after the Association held its elections in Johannesburg. Jordaan defeated Ria Ledwaba to the position as he returns for his third stint as president.

PSL dates released

The PSL season will commence on the 6th of August and take a two-month-long recess on the 6th of November before it resumes on the 7th of January 2023.

The PSL will accommodate the World Cup in Qatar and allow selected players to join their national teams on the 14th of November 2022. There will be no league cup again this season but the Nedbank Cup will be back and the final is expected seven days after the end of the league season on the 27th of May 2023.

PSL transfers update

Orlando Pirates announced the arrival of the new coach Jose Riveiro who was coaching in Finland. This is the Spaniard’s second first-team job in his career.

Kaizer Chiefs announced the signing of Bafana Bafana midfielder, Yusuf Maart, from Sekhukhune United.

GladAfrica Championship side Venda Football Academy have secured the signature of former Pirates and Egypt national team coach Michael Loftman as their head coach.
