Desh Parthab takes a look at a few things you need to keep in mind before taking your DStv Premiership bets on Wednesday evening; with a focus on Chippa's defensive resolve, Arrows' formidable away form and more!
Here’s a stat: two of the three leakiest defences go head to head tonight. Baroka and Golden Arrows have both conceded 36 league goals apiece, alongside TS Galaxy. Following Brandon Truter’s appointment as interim manager of Amazulu, the club are yet to see league defeat. The ex-Swallows boss made the trip to his former employers and came away with the points.
Masandawana edged Sekhukhune United 2-0 indicating that they’re showing no signs of slowing down and will be looking for maximum points come the end of the season. The current DStv Premiership champions finished the 2020/21 season on 67 points and could potentially finish this season with 70 points.
With that being said, here are a few other clubs looking to take maximum points.
Chippa’s defensive resolve
Chippa United have kept three clean sheets across their previous five league outings. Lloyd Kazapua has been instrumental in their sensational away form which has seen them lose just one of their last five away league outings. Kazapua will have his work cut out for him in this one as he comes up against an inform Cape Town City side who have found the back of the net 13 times this year – only Mamelodi Sundowns (19) and Royal AM (15) have scored more in 2022 from all top flight clubs.

Goal-shy Baroka on their way down?
Relegation-threatened Baroka have found the back of the net just twice across their five home league outings this year. Indeed, the club have scored one or fewer in 11 of their 13 home league fixtures this campaign. Across his previous three away league outings (across all competitions), Sekela Sithole has bagged two goals. The in-form wide man will need his away form prowess in order to take advantage of the league’s leakiest defence in Arrows.

Red-hot City building toward run-in
Cape Town City have won 11 league outings this term, only Royal AM (12) and Mamelodi Sundowns (17) have notched up more victories. The Citizens (22) have taken the most points from all top-flight clubs in 2022 in just 10 league outings – indeed, they had taken a total of 16 league outings to amass the same points total in 2021. Craig Martin has bagged 2 goals and an assist across his previous 5 league outings and is one of the many players who have answered Tinkler’s call.

Rock-solid Arrows take aim at Baroka
Golden Arrows have just one blemish on their formidable away DStv Premiership form since the turn of the year. The KZN outfit have seen defeat just once across their four away league outings in 2022 – a 6-0 hammering by the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns, which came in their previous away fixture. That sour taste should fuel Nduduzo Sibiya who has bagged a goal and an assist across his previous 3 home league appearances. He will need to tap into that form to steer his team to victory as they come up against a Baroka side who have taken just a single point from their previous 12 on offer.

Maritzburg desperate to gap Swallows
Maritzburg have taken just nine points from their eight league outings (W2 D3 L3) in 2022 – only Sekhukhune (6) and Baroka (5) have registered fewer from all top-flight clubs. The Team of Choice have scored just three goals across their previous five league outings and Friday Samu has been directly involved in all of them. The forward has bagged 2 goals and registered an assist, which is crucial to their bid to avoid relegation. The KZN outfit have blanked in 6 of their 13 home league outings this term but could have some luck against a Royal AM side who have kept just a single away league clean sheet this year.
