Desh Parthab takes a look at five stats to keep in mind before taking your DStv Premiership bets this weekend. Here we look at Veli Mothwa’s current form at AmaZulu, Mdantsane looks to inspire CT City to CAFCL qualification and more!
The previous round of fixtures gave us a 4 goal thriller between Chippa and Baroka. It was an inspired performance from Baroka who were set on taking the 3 points until Chippa struck in stoppage time to ensure the points were shared. That draw means that Chippa are undefeated across their previous 5 league outings – only Cape Town City (12) are on a longer current unbeaten run in the league. On the opposite end of the log, the push for continental football resumes when Tinkler’s Cape Town City takes on Truter’s Amazulu. Defence is the best form of attack and Amazulu do have sufficient momentum ahead of this one – under Truter, Usuthu have faced just 4 shots on targets across their 5 league appearances. With that being said, here are some points to digest ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.
Veli Mothwa’s safe gloves
Veli Mothwa has kept 5 straight league clean sheets but will have his work cut out for him as he comes up against a Cape Town City (15) team who have only been outscored by Mamelodi Sundowns (20) from all topflight clubs in 2022. Amazulu have conceded just 20 goals across their 28 league outings this season – only Mamelodi Sundowns (15) have conceded fewer from all top flight clubs. Despite this exceptional defensive record, alarmingly 70% of Amazulu’s goals conceded have come in away matches (14/20), with only Royal AM (71%) and Baroka (82%) conceding a higher share on their travels this term.
“I remember Siyanda Xulu telling me, saying if you are a goalkeeper, if you make two crucial saves, the team will never score (against) him.”

Mdantsane looks to inspire CT City to CAFCL qualification
Mduduzi Mdantsane has been hugely impressive for the boys in blue and yellow. Across the Citizen’s previous 3 home league outings, Mdantsane has attempted 8 shots, of which 3 were on target and all landed in the back of the net! The Western Cape outfit have only seen home league defeat once this term and will be looking to end their final home league fixture of the season in style.

Themba Zwane's consistent performances
Themba Zwane has delivered 3 assists across his previous 3 home league appearances – bringing his tally to 7 for the season. The Mamelodi Sundowns talisman has been a consistent playmaker for the PSL champions – only Khama Billiat (8) has notched up more from all topflight players. The Brazilians come up against a formidable Stellenbosch side who have taken 19 points (W4 D7 L3) from their 14 away league outings this season – only 2 topflight clubs have accumulated more points on their travels this season.

Thokozani Sekotlong returns to scoring ways
Thokozani Sekotlong has returned a goal and an assist across his previous 3 league outings for Chippa. The club have picked up 4 league victories on their travels this term – only 2 top-flight clubs have registered more away victories (Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, level on 6 apiece). Chippa come up against a Swallows team who have picked up just 4 league wins across their 28 league outings this season.
Chippa United will be looking for more than just a point in their DStv Premiership fixture against relegation threatened Moroka Swallows on Saturday, at Dobsonville Stadium (3pm). https://t.co/eNXp2AXKNJ

Iqraam Rayners' current impressive form
Iqraam Rayners has bagged 2 goals across his previous 3 home league appearances for Matsatsantsa. Indeed Supersport (33) have only been outscored by Royal AM (37) and Mamelodi Sundowns (53) this term. Supersport have registered just 3 away league victories – only 4 topflight clubs have picked up fewer away wins. The club have drawn 7 of their 14 away league outings – a league leading total.
