PREVIEW: Juventus back in the title race

With less than 10 games to go before the Serie A season is wrapped up, the Scudetto chasing pack of Inter Milan, Napoli, and AC have invited their old enemy back into the fray, Juventus, and knowing their history, The Old Lady will be breathing down their necks until the very last game.

Friday 18 March

6/10 Sassuolo | Draw 32/10 | Spezia 39/10 (19:45)

While Sassuolo will be disappointed after dropping points against bottom of the table Salernitana last weekend, Spezia made sure they collected the required three points against relegation candidates Cagliari.

This was Spezia’s first win after a five-game winless run. The win ensured they have a seven-point cushion ahead of 18th positioned Venezia, especially because they’ve played two more games than them. Spezia haven’t scored a lot of goals this season averaging a goal a game and they come up against a team that has scored the same amount as Napoli, and six more than Juventus. This should be a high-scoring encounter for the home team and I’m backing them for a win.

23/10 Genoa | Draw 23/10 | Torino 12/10 (22:00)

Like Salernitana, Genoa is finally showing some teeth towards the end of this campaign, a fighting spirit to remain in the league perhaps. After being smashed 6-0 by Fiorentina in January, Genoa has gone seven games unbeaten, drawing all seven 0-0 or 1-1.

These draws include matchups against Inter and Atalanta. Against a Torino side that hasn’t won a game in seven, they will be hoping to get maximum points in their push to survive the drop. I would go for a double chance here, Genoa win or draw.

Saturday 19 March

9/20 Napoli | Draw 34/10 | Udinese 54/10 (16:00)

After a 1-0 loss against AC Milan, Napoli made sure they collected maximum points against Verona this past weekend with Victor Osimhen netting twice in a 2-1 victory.

The win means Napoli stays in touch with the Scudetto chasing pack, only three points behind league leaders Milan. They will look to continue picking up points against a Udinese side that has only won once in their last five fixtures. Back the home side win and add Napoli to all your multiples.

9/20 Inter Milan | Draw 37/10 | Fiorentina 52/10 (19:00)

Inter needed a stoppage-time equalizer to salvage a draw against Torino on Sunday. Another tricky fixture against Fiorentina is the last thing the doctor would have ordered for them, but these are the games that make champions. Having just won one game in their last five, the Nerazzurri have themselves to blame for their continued drift away from top position.

Fiorentina on the other hand has a chance to qualify for the Europa League if they continue with their good form of one loss in their last five. I still back Inter to claim maximum points here.

38/10 Cagliari | Draw 29/10 | AC Milan 7/10 (21:45)

The home side sits dangerously close to the relegation zone, with just three points between them and 18th positioned Venezia.

Cagliari has recorded just one win in their last five games, and it came against Atalanta. Their fans will be hoping they’ll look to that game when facing the table-topping Milan who are on a seven-game unbeaten run. Back the away side to win both halves.

Sunday 20 March

31/20 Venezia | Draw 47/20 | Sampdoria 17/10 (13:30)

Two teams with one victory in their last five games meet in this early kick-off on Sunday. The home side is languishing in 18th position, while Sampdoria will be worried about their Serie A status sitting 16th with just four points separating them and Venezia.

This should be a cagey game in the first half, but things should open up enough in the second with both teams chasing three points. Back both teams to score at 6/10.

2/9 Juventus | Draw 52/10 | Salernitana 12/1 (16:00)

The Old Lady has been invited back in the race for the Scudetto. It’s an invitation they’ve hardly resisted in the last couple of weeks powering on like a steam train. Juventus are unbeaten in 17 games now and have collected maximum points in their last three fixtures to attain the fourth position in Serie A, only six points off table-toppers AC Milan. Against bottom of the table Salernitana, who’ve only lost once in their last five games (drawing the rest) this should be an easy win for the home team. Over 2.5 goals for Juve on this one at 15/20 and include them in your multiples.

2/1 Empoli | Draw 24/10 | Verona 13/10 (16:00)

Empoli is in a bad run of form having collected three losses and two draws in their last five fixtures.

The team is still safe from the drop with a 10-point cushion above 18th positioned Venezia, but if they don’t start winning soon, they may find themselves in a battle to survive the drop. Verona on the other hand will be looking to get back to winning ways after their loss to Napoli ended their four-game unbeaten run. I am tipping a double chance here, Verona draw or win at 7/20.

27/20 Roma | Draw 24/10 | Lazio 19/10 (19:00)

Jose Mourinho must have been very disappointed with his team dropping points against Udinese last time out. The draw meant Roma are now eight points adrift of Champions League places, and they come up against a Lazio side with similar ambitions.

The task is simple, both teams need a win to have any chance of catching Juventus. Roma will have to keep the league’s top scorer, Ciro Immobile in check while Lazio will have to keep an eye on Roma’s counterattack. Back both teams to score at 13/20.

32/10 Bologna | Draw 11/4 | Atalanta 8/10 (21:45)

Bologna will be looking to snap a three-game winless run against Atalanta when they wrap up the weekend’s action. Atalanta has had a mixed bag of form in 2022 and have managed to win just once in their last five games. Their downfall has been drawing this season.

In the top six, they have the most draws on nine. Luckily, they are facing a team with a leaky defense and should be able to get maximum points.  Back Atalanta to score over 2.5 goals on this one at 7/4.
