Spanish La Liga: Gameweek 13 Preview

Relentless Atletico Madrid top La Liga after seven consecutive wins. Thomas Lemar and Marcos Llorente were on target against a very stubborn Real Valladolid to send Atletico top of the table for the first time this season.

Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane could breathe a sigh of relief as an own goal from Yassine Bounou gave Real Madrid a 1-0 win at Sevilla. Cadiz beat Barcelona for the first time in La Liga since 1991 as former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo scored a famous winner.

Friday 11 December

Real Valladolid 27/20

Draw 21/10

Osasuna 22/10

Real Valladolid suffered their first defeat in four matches when succumbing to a 2-0 loss against log leaders Atletico Madrid. Sergio Gonzalez will draw a line on last week’s defeat as the gulf in class was the huge difference. Prior to last weekend’s defeat, Valladolid had collected seven points in three matches, beating teams like Granada and Athletic Bilbao.

Osasuna are winless in their last five matches, losing four and drawing the other. They’ve conceded 11 and scored just twice in those five matches which clearly outlines the problems at Osasuna. Back Real Valladolid to win this match.

Saturday 12 December

Valencia 43/20

Draw 21/10

Athletic Bilbao 27/20

We kick off the Saturday fixtures with an interesting clash at the Mestalla. Valencia are one of the worst teams in the competition and are placed 16th in the table at the moment. The hosts have collected 12 points from 11 matches, and they are just a point above the red zone which is really worrying for such a big team.

Athletic Bilbao are in no different situation to their opponents, they are also struggling and have collecting 13 points from 11 games. Both teams are scoring and conceding. Last Friday’s 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo at home was evidence that Bilbao will have a long season. Neither team can be trusted on current form, so I suggest backing BTTS at 19/20.

Getafe 3/1

Draw 2/1

Sevilla 11/10

Getafe have registered only three wins in their 11 appearances so far this season in the league. Two of those three wins came from the first three matches which means they are winless in the last seven matches.

Sevilla’s winning streak came to an end as an own goal from Yassine Bounou proved to be the difference against Real Madrid. The Sevillistas have been blowing hot and cold and these are the fixtures they usual do well in. I’m expecting Sevilla to win this match.

Huesca 13/10

Draw 22/10

Deportivo Alaves 9/4

After 12 games played, Huesca are the only side who are yet to win in the league this season. The hosts were held to yet another draw last weekend which is their eighth draw since the start of the campaign. Back Alaves to claim maximum points here.

Real Madrid 29/20

Draw 23/10

Atletico Madrid 37/20

Real Madrid welcome their neighbours Atletico Madrid to the Alfredo Di Stefano for Saturday’s Madrid derby. Atletico are in excellent form with 26 points, while Real Madrid have 20 and have played a game more than their opponents. Followed by their 2-0 win against Real Valladolid on the weekend, Diego Simeone’s men stretched their La Liga winning streak to seven matches. The team has conceded only two goals in 10 league games and remains the only unbeaten side in the competition.

Last week’s match marked the return of Luis Suarez, who hadn’t played for Atletico since November due to the coronavirus. The former Barcelona striker had tested positive for COVID-19 while with Uruguay’s national team. Last week Madrid arrived in Seville with Zidane under pressure after the team had won only one of its last five matches in all competitions. They had lost two of their last three league games. This will be an interesting clash, but Atletico Madrid should come out victorious.

Real Sociedad 11/20

Draw 29/10

Eibar 5/1

Being top of the table and challenging for the league comes with a lot of pressure and demands are much higher. Real Sociedad started the season like a house on fire, beating everyone who came in their way, but if they are to challenge for titles, they would need to maintain consistency throughout the campaign. The wheels are coming off as the team is now winless in four matches across all competitions. The four consecutive draws make this a must-win encounter for the hosts who are now second on the log after leading from the start. Back Real Sociedad to bounce back.

Real Betis 2/1

Draw 49/20

Villarreal 13/10

Real Betis finally ended their three-match losing streaking when beating Osasuna last weekend. The win will come as a morale booster ahead of this difficult tie. If there’s one thing the hosts have been consistent about is the fact, they either win or lose as they’ve never played a draw this season – it’s been five wins and seven loses.

Villarreal are the dark horses this season and they’ve gone about their business very quietly. Unai Emery’s side is unbeaten in the last 14 matches across all competitions and they are five points away from first-placed Atletico Madrid. In the league, the Yellow Submarine have won five, drawn six and lost just once. Back the visitors to win here.

Elche 47/20

Draw 2/1

Granada 13/10

Depth has proven to be the biggest factor in this short season as games are coming thick and fast. Both teams started well but fatigue is slowly kicking in and they are now struggling to register wins. Elche have drawn each of their last four matches while Granada have won just once in the last six matches. Both teams can’t be trusted currently so back goals in this match. Get on Under 2.5 Goals at 11/20.

Barcelona 1/4

Draw 11/2

Levante 9/1

Barcelona lost in the league for the fourth time this season despite the return of Lionel Messi, who had been rested in the team’s Champions League midweek match. Barca were going for their fourth consecutive win in all competitions but paid the price for a defensive mistake in the second half.

Ronald Koeman’s men remain nineth on the standings, 12 points away from log leaders Atletico Madrid. At the moment Barca are playing like a team fighting for the Europa League spot and they are showing no intentions of challenging for the league. Barca are not reliable and their games are usually high scoring so backing Over 2.5 Goals seems to be the safest bet.

Monday 14 December

Celta Vigo 8/10

Draw 49/20

Cadiz 38/10

Monday night football in La Liga will see just one game as Celta Vigo try to make three consecutive wins and move away from the bottom half. Cadiz are surprisingly fifth on the log after 12 matches and weirdly they are better on the road than they are at home. Cadiz have the third best away record after winning four of their six matches played on the road, including their big upset at Real Madrid earlier in the season. Never write off Cadiz on the road, so I’ll play it safe and back BTTS at 23/20.

TREBLE 9/1

Sevilla Win 11/10

Deportivo Alaves Win 9/4

Real Sociedad Win 11/20
