Our football pundit previews ten of the weekend’s Spanish La Liga Week 25 match-ups.

There were plenty of straightforward fixtures last weekend with seven of the 10 games predicted correctly. One of the incorrectly tipped fixtures was Barcelona cruising to 2-0 victory away to Eibar to retain their seven-point lead at the top of the standings. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Real Madrid kept up the pressure, while Sevilla continue to fight for a top four spot. So without further ado, let’s get straight into gameweek 25’s action.

Friday 23 February

31/20 Deportivo | Draw 43/20 | Espanyol 37/20 (22:00)

Deportivo suffered their third loss in a row to extend their winless run to nine league matches. They remain in 19th spot on the table, but could struggle to make their way out of the red zone if their dismal form continues. Espanyol are going through a winless run of their own as well. The visitors have not won in six league matches, but have proved tough to beat as well, drawing four times in that run, including in the last three outings. This one is pretty obvious – back Under 2.5 Goals at 13/20.

Saturday 24 February

1/1 Celta Vigo | Draw 49/20 | Eibar 11/4 (14:00)

Celta Vigo need to end their poor run of three games without a win when they host Eibar this Saturday. They’re languishing in the bottom half of the table, three points behind their opponents who are in seventh spot. The visitors’ four-game unbeaten run came to an end when they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Barcelona. Celta Vigo were rampant 4-0 winners over Eibar earlier this season, and knocked them out of the Copa del Rey, beating them by a one-goal scoreline in both legs. Back the home win here.

1/8 Real Madrid | Draw 15/2 | Alaves 16/1 (17:15)

If things go according to plan in midweek, Real Madrid could head into this clash in third place. They face Leganes away from home on Wednesday, but this will certainly be the trickier of the two fixtures. Alaves have come to life in the second half of the campaign, and now find themselves in 15th spot. The talk of relegation has died down for now and their impressive run of three wins in a row will be put to the test against Los Blancos. Both Teams to Score seems a decent bet at 19/20!

17/20 Leganes | Draw 24/10 | Las Palmas 34/10 (19:30)

As mentioned before, Leganes face a tricky test at home to Real Madrid before they head into the weekend’s action. Las Palmas are a side there for the taking, but I fear that Leganes do not have enough firepower to get past the Yellows so easily. The hosts are winless in three games, at the time of writing, and have lost their last two matches. Las Palmas have only scored five times away from home this season – no side have netted less times. Under 2.5 Goals is the way to go here at 13/20.

2/13 Barcelona | Draw 7/1 | Girona 15/1 (21:45)

High-flying Barcelona continued their La Liga dominance with a 2-0 win away to Eibar last weekend. If ever there was a time that a team looks ‘Invincible’, it’s now. Barca are still unbeaten with 14 games left to play. Girona are slowly climbing up the table, moving up to eighth with their impressive 3-0 win over Leganes last weekend. However, their away form has let them down in recent weeks, failing to win in their last five attempts. Already that is enough to convince me to back Barcelona this weekend. Get on the Home Win to Nil market at 9/10!

Sunday 25 February

17/20 Villarreal | Draw 5/2 | Getafe 34/10 (13:00)

Villarreal are one of the many teams going through a winless run of three games. They face another difficult test when they host Getafe on Sunday afternoon. The visitors come off a superb 3-0 win over Celta Vigo on Monday, and are unbeaten in six league matches. To make matters worse, Villarreal have to go full strength in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday to try and overturn their 3-1 deficit against Lyon around. Back Getafe on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 9/10.

7/10 Athletic Bilbao | Draw 51/20 | Malaga 17/4 (17:15)

Athletic Bilbao will not get a better chance to return to winning ways when they host bottom-placed Malaga on Sunday. The hosts are winless in six league matches and have dropped down to 14th in the standings. Malaga, on the other hand, have not won in nine games, while they’ve also lost the most amount of games away from home (10). These sides played out to a thrilling 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture, but strangely, I see the hosts returning to winning ways – get on at 7/10!

7/10 Valencia | Draw 3/1 | Real Sociedad 33/10 (19:30)

Valencia claimed their second consecutive victory last weekend to keep up the pressure in their quest for a top four finish. They’re seven points ahead of fifth-placed Sevilla, so they can still afford a few more hiccups along the way. Real Sociedad have been blowing hot and cold in recent weeks, winning two of their last three games, but have lost four games in a row before that. This is certainly going to produce plenty of goals, but I still foresee Valencia edging it. Back the Home Win & Both Teams to Score at 17/10!

43/20 Sevilla | Draw 43/20 | Atletico Madrid 27/20 (21:45)

Sevilla and Atletico Madrid do battle in Sunday’s late-kick in what should be a cracking encounter. The hosts seem to be going through an upturn in form, winning their last two fixtures in the league. Before that, Sevilla were going through a bit of a rough patch, which saw them far off the pace in the run-in for top four. Atletico Madrid will be pushing to make it eight consecutive games without defeat this weekend. They’ve won six of those matches, including the last four. Diego Costa has found his scoring boots again and is tipped to strike Atletico to glory here – back the visitors at 27/20!

Monday 26 February

14/10 Levante | Draw 24/10 | Real Betis 19/10 (22:00)

Levante will be going all-out to end their dismal run of 12 games without a victory when they host Real Betis on Monday night. Somehow, the hosts are still two points clear of the relegation zone. Real Betis head into this one off the back of an exciting eight-goal thriller in which they were defeated 5-3 at home to Real Madrid. Before that, they had won their previous two games and still find themselves in the top half of the table. I like the look of the away win here at 19/10!
