Spanish La Liga: Gameweek 28 Preview

Barcelona moved back to the top of the standings after a Lionel Messi penalty ensured three points against a stubborn Real Sociedad side. Real Madrid continued with their inconsistencies when they lost to Real Betis on Sunday. There were no changes on positions three, four and five as Sevilla, Getafe and Atletico all played draws this past weekend. Let’s take a look at how gameweek 28 is likely to pan out:

Friday 13 March

Real Madrid 2/9
Draw 22/10
Eibar 15/10
After a tough three weeks, where Madrid lost three in two different competitions, they are back at their favourite hunting ground, the Santiago Bernabeu. Against the relegation-battling Eibar, Zinedine Zidane’s men will be expected to deliver a massive win after last week’s disappointing defeat to fellow strugglers Real Betis.

Madrid were super impressive in their last home game, beating Barcelona 2-0. The last time Eibar picked up a point at Madrid was in December 2017. Back Real Madrid on the (-1) Handicap.

Saturday 14 March
Leganes 9/10
Draw 43/20
Valladolid 38/10

Both teams are going through dismal runs and will try their best to put an end to it with a win this weekend. The hosts recorded a rare away win last Sunday when upsetting the Yellow Submarine 2-1 in their turf.

Valladolid have lost each of their last two matches and they will have to avoid defeat by all costs if they are serious about surviving relegation as six points separate these two sides at 15th and 19th. I’d never take 9/10 on a team that’s placed 19th on the log no matter who they are playing. Therefore, back the Half-Time Draw at 17/20.

Valencia 6/10
Draw 32/10
Levante 4/1
The betting suggests that this will be one-way traffic in favour of Valencia. I completely disagree with the 6/10 price, considering the recent woeful run of the Bats – winning once in the last seven matches.

Levante have been very inconsistent lately, beating Real Madrid then losing 3-0 to Eibar after that and drawing with Granada at home. It’s expected that Valencia will display a winning performance this weekend but the price is too short for me. Get on Both Team to Score at 6/10.

Mallorca 6/1
Draw 15/4
Barcelona 4/10
Both teams have been performing well the past several weeks. Mallorca have picked up seven points in the last four games while Barcelona picked up nine in the last four.

The hosts were the first team to beat Real Madrid this season and that will definitely be used as motivation coming into this weekend’s fixture. Barcelona know there’s no more room for error after regaining top spot on gameweek 27. 4/10 is good value for Barcelona.

Celta Vigo 23/20
Draw 24/10
Villarreal 23/10
Rejuvenated Celta Vigo will host a struggling Villarreal team that has lost each of their last three league matches, including last weekend’s home defeat to relegation-threatened Leganes.

Celta are unbeaten in the five matches, collecting nine points and moved out of the red zone by one point. The hosts will fancy themselves in this match and will see this as a good opportunity to kick away from the likes of Mallorca who face Barca. Back Celta to win at 23/20.

Sunday 15 March

Espanyol 21/20
Draw 21/10
Deportivo Alaves 3/1
Espanyol remained at the foot of the table after yet another defeat. With 11 matches to go, the hosts will need to start winning matches or else they will be in the Segunda Division next season. Avoiding defeat will be a priority for Alaves as they are 12 points clear of their opponents.

Espanyol have been playing well at home recently, beating Wolves and drawing with Atelico Madrid and if they pull out those kinds of performances, I think they can get a result here. Take a chance and back the hosts at 21/20.

Real Sociedad 11/20
Draw 32/10
Osasuna 9/2
Sociedad were unlucky at Barcelona last weekend, going down by a solo penalty. Prior to that, this team had won three matches in succession and could be forgiven for losing at the Camp Nou.

Osasuna fought hard to ensure maximum points against Espanyol which seems to be enough for them to survive relegation. The head-to-head stats are in favour of the home team who won the last two meetings and would be expected to make it three. Get on the hosts to clinch a comfortable victory here.

Athletic Bilbao 22/10
Draw 37/20
Atletico Madrid 31/20
There’s finally light for Athletic Bilbao after winning back-to-back league matches for the first time this year.

Atletico Madrid continue to be the drawing kings of La Liga after recording their 12th draw of the season. Traveling to the San Mames is not easy, it will be even worse now that the hosts have picked up some momentum. Back these sides to cancel each other out.

Granada 18/10
Draw 37/20
Getafe 37/20
Two of my favourite teams do battle on Sunday night. Both these teams have been very loyal and honest to their supporters this season. They win the matches that we expect them to win and that is why they are where they are on the table.

Granada are unbeaten in the last five matches, winning three and drawing two, while Getafe are fighting with everything, they have to stay in the top four. Back a draw here.

Sevilla 8/10
Draw 11/4
Real Betis 32/10
Third-placed Sevilla will host a confident Real Betis side who are fresh from beating title-chasing Real Madrid. Sevilla fought hard to earn a 2-2 draw at Atletico Madrid last weekend and if they put in that kind of swift in this match, they will most likely claim maximum points. Real Betis are no pushovers and Madrid can confirm that, so this will be a tight affair. Back Sevilla to grind a win here.

TREBLE @ 5/1
Barcelona Win 4/10
Celta Vigo Win 23/20
Espanyol Win 21/20
