Spanish La Liga: Gameweek 28 Preview

That’s that, then. The coronavirus break finally came to an end as we approach the business end, where things tend to take shape. Before the break, Barcelona moved two points clear at the top after Real Madrid were beaten by Real Betis. With 11 games still to play, Zidane’s men can’t afford to drop anymore points.

Playing behind closed doors makes it a 50/50 tie as there is no home advantage. The spectators are usually that 12th man as they inspire and cheer for the home team. With them missing, it makes the matches more open which means we can expect a few upsets.

Sevilla 9/10
Draw 26/10
Real Betis 28/10
(22:00)
Sevilla were enjoying a very good form before lockdown and will be looking to continue where they left off. Julen Lopetegui’s men are unbeaten in their last six fixtures across all major competitions. Betis will be looking to make back-to-back upsets after turning things around and beating Real Madrid before the break.

The hosts have won each of the last two derbies and will be looking to make it three on the bounce and secure that third spot. This is usually an open game attracting a lot of goals and has seen 21 goals being scored in the last five meetings with both teams scoring in four matches. As the form suggests, back the home team to win and BTTS at a valuable 5/4.

Granada 22/10
Draw 19/10
Getafe 15/10
(19:30)
Two of my favourite teams battle on Saturday night. Both these teams have been very loyal and honest to their supporters this season. They win the matches that we expect them to win and that is why they are where they are on the log standings.

Granada are unbeaten in the last five matches winning three and drawing two while Getafe are fighting with everything they have to stay in the top four. Back a draw here at 19/10.

Valencia 15/20
Draw 3/1
Levante 33/10
(22:00)
The betting suggests that this will be one-way traffic in favour of Valencia. I completely disagree with the 15/20 price, considering the recent woeful run of the Bats – winning once in the last seven matches.

Levante are a very inconsistent team beating Real Madrid then losing 3-0 to Eibar after that and drawing with Granada at home. It’s expected that Valencia will display a winning performance this weekend but the price is too short for me. Get on Both Team to Score at 11/20.

Espanyol 23/20
Draw 21/10
Alaves 11/4
(14:00)
With 11 matches to go, the hosts will need to start winning matches or else they will be in the Segunda division next season. Avoiding defeat will be a priority for Alaves as they are 12 points clear of their opponents.

To be fair, Espanyol were starting to find their feet before the break beating Wolves and drawing with Atelico Madrid. If they pull out those kind of performances I think they can get a result here. Take a chance and back the hosts at 23/20.

Celta Vigo 16/10
Draw 23/10
Villarreal 17/10
(17:00)
Rejuvenated Celta Vigo will host a struggling Villarreal team that has lost each of their last three league matches including their last match which was a home defeat to relegation-threatened Leganes.

Celta are unbeaten in the five matches, collecting nine points and moved out of the red zone by one point. The hosts really need this game more as they are looking to kick away from the likes of Mallorca who will face Barcelona later on. Get on Celta at 16/10.

Leganes 27/20
Draw 19/10
Valladolid 17/10
(17:00)
Both teams were going through dismal runs and returning with a win will be a good start for either team. The hosts had recorded a rare win before the break when upsetting the Yellow Submarine 2-1 in their turf.

Valladolid have lost each of their last two matches and they will have to avoid defeat by all costs if they are serious about surviving relegation as six points separate these two sides at 15th and 19th. Neither team can be trusted here, even worse after such a long break. Therefore, back the Half-Time draw at 23/20.

Mallorca 17/2
Draw 47/10
Barcelona 3/10
(22:00)
Both teams were performing well before the pandemic. Mallorca have picked up seven points in the last four games while Barcelona picked up nine in the last four. The hosts were the first team to beat Real Madrid this season and that will definitely be used as motivation coming into this weekend’s fixture. Barcelona know there’s no more room for error after regaining top spot on gameweek 27. I don’t see Barcelona bottling here so get on the 3/10.

Sunday 14 June

Athletic Bilbao 51/20
Draw 2/1
Atletico Madrid 5/4
(14:00)
There was finally light for Athletic Bilbao after winning back-to-back league matches for the first time this year. Atletico Madrid remain to be the drawing queens of La Liga after recording 12 draws this season. Traveling to the San Mames is not easy, it will be even worse now that the hosts have picked up some momentum. Back these sides to cancel each other out.

Real Madrid 1/4
Draw 5/1
Eibar 10/1
(19:30)
After dropping points in their last league encounter, Real Madrid dropped to second two points behind their rivals. Zinedine Zidane’s men will be expected to deliver a win here and stay in the title race. The last time Eibar picked up a point at Madrid was in December 2017 and with so much at stake now – I don’t see Madrid slipping up. Back Real Madrid on a (-1) Handicap at 13/20.

Real Sociedad 13/20
Draw 29/10
Osasuna 4/1
(22:00)
Sociedad were unlucky against Barcelona in their last match, going down by a solo penalty. Prior to that, this team had won three matches in succession and could be forgiven for losing at the Camp Nou. Osasuna fought hard to ensure maximum points against Espanyol which seems to be enough for them to survive relegation. Head-to-head stats are in favour of the home team who won the last two meetings and would be expected to make it three. Get on the hosts to clinch a comfortable victory here.

TREBLE @ 6/1
Barcelona 3/10
Celta Vigo 16/10
Espanyol 23/20
