Spanish La Liga: Gameweek 8 Preview

Real Madrid put recent defeats to Shakhtar Donetsk and Cadiz behind them with a 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Barcelona at the Nou Camp last weekend. The victory over Barca boosts their hopes of winning a second consecutive La Liga title. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad are slowly making progress on being the dark horses this season as they are the early pacesetters.

Friday 30 October

Eibar 5/4

Draw 39/20

Cadiz 26/10

Last weekend’s La Liga action was rather intriguing with Eibar pulling off a massive upset by beating Sevilla away from home. Eibar will be looking to build on their three-match unbeaten streak when they take on newcomers Cadiz. Not many punters would have predicted Cadiz’s brilliant start. The new boys are sixth on the table after seven matches and they remained unbeaten in their last four matches which included trips to Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. The visitors are also deadly on the road where they have won all their three of their matches. Hard to pick a winner here, so back Both Teams to Score at 13/10.

Saturday 31 October

Real Madrid 7/20

Draw 4/1

Huesca 15/2

Saturday’s early kick-off sees the defending champions welcome new boys Huesca. Real defeated Barcelona to boost their chances of La Liga glory with a fine performance at the Nou Camp. The win gave them a six-point lead over the Catalans in the table, albeit having played one game more. The last time Los Blancos hosted newcomers were a fortnight ago against Cadiz where they lost 1-0. Zinedine Zidane knows very well not to undermine any fixture after losing their last two against Shakhtar and Cadiz. Back Real Madrid on the (-1) Handicap at 19/20.

Athletic Bilbao 39/20

Draw 39/20

Sevilla 33/20

They say old habits die hard and that’s the case with Bilbao as they have been struggling with consistency over the last four seasons. The hosts remain an unpredictable team once again this season – their disappointing 1-0 defeat against Osasuna was proof that it will be another long campaign. Sevilla will be looking to bounce back from their 1-0 home defeat to Eibar last weekend and Granada in week six. The visitors have been winless in the last three La Liga matches and are in desperate need for a turnaround or they could miss out in what looks to be a very open league this season. Both teams can’t be trusted at the moment, so, back Over 2.5 Goals at 13/10.

Osasuna 4/1

Draw 24/10

Atletico Madrid 15/20

Osasuna are unbeaten in the last three La Liga matches which include two wins and one draw – the hosts managed to keep clean sheets in all of those games. Talking about clean sheets, Atletico Madrid haven’t conceded a goal in their last four La Liga matches. The visitors are creeping in on the table toppers and if they win their two games in hand, they would go top of the table. This game is written Under 2.5 Goals all over it as both teams are very good defensively, however, I’m jumping on the Atletico Madrid win.

Alaves 52/10

Draw 7/2

Barcelona 5/10

Barcelona will want quick redemption from last week’s El Clasico defeat. The Catalans lost their second game of the season by suffering a 3-1 loss at the hands of bitter rivals Real Madrid. Barca have gathered an unusual one point in their last three competitive games. Ronald Koeman’s side sits 12th on the standings with seven points from five matches. This is a must-win for Barcelona and they can’t afford to drop any more points. Back the Spanish giants on the (-1) Handicap at 12/10.

Sunday 1 November

Real Betis 11/20

Draw 28/10

Elche 52/10

Elche have been one of the best teams in the league so far, and with several teams struggling, the new boys will fancy themselves to at least qualify for the Europa League. The visitors are unbeaten in the last four matches, winning three and drawing the other, collecting 10 points from the five matches played. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about Real Betis after suffering their fourth defeat in the last five matches. Betis have conceded five in their last two matches. I fancy an upset here, back Elche on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 5/4.

Celta Vigo 37/20

Draw 43/20

Real Sociedad 31/20

Celta Vigo are one of the worst teams in the competition at the moment – something hugely unexpected after the cracker of a campaign they had last season. As of now, they have lost their last three matches coming into this game, failing to score in each of those matches. Real Sociedad have been the best team in the league so far this season, and with several of the titans experiencing huge setbacks, they finally believe this could be their year. The visitors have won each of their last four matches and they currently top the standings with 14 points from seven matches. Real Sociedad look unstoppable at the moment, so, I will continue to back them until they disappoint.

Granada 5/4

Draw 43/20

Levante 24/10

Another team that started the season very well is Granada. The Nazaries were very competitive last season, especially at home. They are now much more experienced and have every reason to believe they can qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The hosts are third on the standings, one point behind the table toppers. Levante have been dreadful in the league, having lost four of their first five matches, leaving them second to last on the table. Back Granada to win this game convincingly.

Valencia 43/20

Draw 19/10

Getafe 15/10

Valencia are one side that have suffered badly from COVID-19. The Bats were forced to sell some of their top performers last season in order to make money after being hit hard financially by the pandemic. As a result, Los Che are really struggling this season and look like an average midtable team. They come into this game off the back of three consecutive defeats. Getafe, on the other hand, have been very decent this season and they will also fancy themselves for a Champions League spot after narrowly missing out last season. Getafe are four points behind top spot with a game in hand. After last week’s setback of losing at home to Granada, the visitors can’t afford any more slip ups. Back Getafe to win this match at a valuable 15/10.

Monday 2 November

Villarreal 11/20

Draw 3/1

Valladolid 47/10

Valladolid are by far the worst team in La Liga since the start of 2020. The Pucela finished the previous season in a terrible state and only survived the axe because of a good first half. Unfortunately, this campaign they’ve started very slow, collecting only three points in seven matches and are yet to win. Villarreal are the best team at home so far after picking up 10 points in three matches. This is a perfect opportunity for them to make it 13 points in five matches. This is the banker of the weekend, so, back Villarreal and include them in all multiples.

TREBLE TIPPED @ 6/1

Real Madrid (-1) Handicap 19/20

Granada Win 5/4

Villarreal Win 11/20
