Barcelona vs Sevilla | Sunday 22 May 2016 | Vicente Calderon Stadium | 21:30

Our La Liga scribes preview for the 2015/16  Copa Del Rey final between Barcelona and Sevilla.

La Liga champions Barcelona will take on Europa League champions Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final at the Vicente Calderon Stadium on Sunday.

Meetings between Barcelona and Sevilla rarely disappoint in terms of entertainment. Last year’s European Super Cup ended in a thrilling nine-goal game which the Catalans won in extra-time thanks to a strike from Pedro Rodriguez. The last time the two met in a Spanish Super Cup did not lack goals either, as the two-legged tie ended 5-3 in Barca’s favour.

Our Spanish La Liga scribe takes a look at the set of fixtures for the 2015/16 season.

The 2015-16 Spanish La Liga has been one hell of a ride and the final week promises to be the most exciting.

Barcelona are top of La Liga on 88 points, one ahead of Real Madrid in second and three above Atletico Madrid, who dropped out of the title race after losing 2-1 at Levante last weekend. Barca will be looking to win their sixth league title in eight seasons, while Real Madrid will be looking to lift the trophy for the first time since 2012, and second time in eight seasons.

The title will be settled on Saturday evening while the relegation battle will conclude 24 hours later. Both Granada and Deportivo are safe from the drop with only Levante confirmed in next year’s Segunda and the final two places will be filled by two from Rayo Vallecano, Getafe and Sporting Gijon.

The Spanish La Liga enters its 37th week this Sunday and things are still as tight as ever after Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid all managed victories last weekend. The La Liga heavyweights are separated by just a solitary point heading into the final two league matches of the season.

At the other end of the table, Levante’s relegation from La Liga was confirmed on Monday after a late collapse saw them lose 3-1 to Malaga at Estadio La Rosaleda. The three teams above them — Sporting Gijon, Getafe and Rayo Vallecano —all have 35 points to their name. Getafe and Sporting Gijon will meet at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez this weekend in a relegation six pointer. The best news for this week in La Liga came for Villarreal. Their win, coupled with Athletic Bilbao beating Celta Vigo, means the Yellow Submarine have officially secured fourth spot and UEFA Champions League qualification. Athletic can catch them on points, but Villarreal have the better head-to-head record, so fourth is theirs already.

With two rounds remaining, it’s all to play for in La Liga!

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Real Madrid all won last weekend to leave the race for the La Liga title on a knife edge with only three matches left in the season. Barcelona have 82 points, ahead of Atletico on goal difference, and Real Madrid are one point back in third.

Zinedine Zidane’s side will travel to the Anoeta Stadium on Saturday to take on Real Sociedad, while Atletico will welcome strugglers Rayo Vallecano at the Vicente Calderon while free-scoring Barcelona will visit Real Betis, who they boast an excellent record against, later on in the evening.

Will this be the weekend Sevilla finally win on the road? Unai Emery’s team will play relegation-threatened Espanyol on Sunday. Seven teams can still mathematically be relegated, from 14th-placed Deportivo all the way to bottom-placed Levante.

Barcelona are stuttering towards the finish line in La Liga’s title race with Real Madrid and Atletico hot on their heels. Luis Enrique’s side are well aware of the fact that they are now just three points ahead of Atletico, but they have head-to-head advantage and goal difference as an additional buffer. Real Madrid don’t want to be forgotten, and their run of six consecutive La Liga victories since defeat to Atletico means they are closing in, but Zinedine Zidane’s men have the most difficult league fixtures to come of all three would-be contenders. There will, fittingly, be sleepless nights in this intriguing final stretch. We should be in for another thrilling gameweek as the title race hots up.

Real Madrid did their local rivals a favour by beating Barcelona 2-1 in the El Clasico last weekend, which will provide Atletico Madrid some faint hope in La Liga’s title race. Colchoneros hammered Real Betis 5-1 last weekend and now trail the Catalan giants by six points in the table.

On Saturday, Los Blancos will play host to strugglers Eibar, while Diego Simeone’s side travel to Espanyol who have proven tough to beat in recent weeks. Shortly after, Barcelona will be hoping to return to winning ways when they travel to Real Sociedad. Each week seems to get more exciting as teams look to finish the season off in style.
