Spanish La Liga: Week 13 Preview

Week 13 Preview

This is one of the most open La Liga seasons ever with only two points separating the top six. Our analyst previews gameweek 13.

None of the big guns seem to want it more than the other with all the top teams failing to win last time out. Barcelona were thrashed 3-1 by Levante, Atletico Madrid drew 1-1 with Sevilla and Real Madrid were held by Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu. Can there be more upsets in gameweek 13?

Friday 8 November

Real Sociedad 6/10
Draw 26/10
Leganes 5/1
Home advantage is likely to be the deciding factor for Real Sociedad in this one as they seek to extend their unbeaten record against Leganes at the RS Stadium come Friday. The hosts returned to winning ways when they beat in-form Granada in their own backyard. The impressive victories put Sociedad level on 22 points with likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

On the other hand, Leganes have been terrible this season with only one win in 12 matches. The visitors have only scored six goals and conceded 21 in the process. This is a banker and include the home team in all multiples.

Saturday 9 November

Deportivo Alaves 27/20
Draw 2/1
Valladolid 23/10
After their confidence-boosting 2-0 win against Celta Vigo, Alaves have slightly gone off track and they will be desperate to make a comeback this weekend. The fact that they are at home, playing against a team that hasn’t beaten them since 2015 gives the fans something to look forward to. Real Valladolid are no pushovers and they have proven it this season. The visitors have a record of four wins, five draws and three defeats to their name. Back these sides to cancel each other out.

Valencia 15/20
Draw 51/20
Granada 38/10
Valencia’s win over Espanyol last weekend was their first victory in their last five matches. The Bats have been guilty of dropping easy points this season, and are likely to bank on home advantage this Saturday. The wheels are coming off at Granada after suffering back-to-back defeats for the first time this season.

The visitors had a chance to top the table coming into this weekend but failed to get something at home to Real Sociedad on Sunday night. These sides meet for the first time since April 2017 where Valencia smashed their opponents 3-1. I’m expecting the same outcome here so back Valencia at 15/20.

Eibar 39/10
Draw 31/10
Real Madrid 13/20
Inconsistent is the best way to describe this Real Madrid team. Last week, they had back-to-back fixtures against strugglers Leganes and Real Betis. After winning the midweek clash 5-0, everyone expected Los Blancos to roll past Betis on the weekend, but Zidane’s men were held to a goalless draw.

Madrid come into this game with last season’s memories where they were hammered 3-0 by Eibar and against this inconsistent team, the home fans have every reason to be confident. Personally, 13/20 is a price I’d never take for Real Madrid especially after losing to Mallorca in their last away game. Take Both Teams to Score at 5/4.

Barcelona 2/11
Draw 6/1
Celta Vigo 13/1
Barcelona still top the table despite being hammered by Levante last Saturday. The defeat ended their seven-game winning streak in all competitions. At home, the Catalans have been brutal this season winning all five matches, including scoring 26 goals. The visitors’ poor form of one win in 10 matches is expected to continue this weekend when they face the champions. Celta Vigo have lost each of their last four matches which gives them no chance at the Camp Nou. Take Barcelona to Win Both Halves at 23/20.

Sunday 10 November

Mallorca 5/2
Draw 49/20
Villarreal 21/20
Mallorca haven’t tasted a victory since their shocking win against Real Madrid. The hosts are now winless in three matches, conceding five goals in the process. Villarreal were there about in the relegation zone at this time last season but the Yellow Submarine have improved a lot in this campaign and are nowhere near the red zone. In fact, a win here will see the visitors go level on points with fourth-placed Atletico Madrid. Get on Villarreal to upset Mallorca at home.

Athletic Bilbao 7/10
Draw 26/10
Levante 39/10
Athletic Bilbao have been fantastic at home this season, winning four of the six matches played at the San Mames. Their next assignment is a tricky one against a Levante team who just defeated Barcelona 3-1 on the weekend. These sides are level on 17 points and 13 of those were collected in this venue. Because of home advantage, back Athletic Bilbao.

Atletico Madrid 9/20
Draw 29/10
Espanyol 7/1
In any other season, Atletico Madrid would be out the top four with the kind of form they have. Diego Simeone’s men have won once in their last six league games. Losing key players like Diego Godin, Antoine Griezmann, Gabi, Juanfran and record signing, Joao Felix, being injured was obviously going to be difficult for Atleti. Playing on Thursdays in the Europa League has been the major difference for Espanyol. The visitors are second from the bottom with only two wins from 12 matches. This is a perfect chance for Atletico to return to winning ways.

Getafe 19/20
Draw 22/10
Osasuna 32/10
Mid-table rivals Getafe and Osasuna are set to battle each other in the 13th round of the Spanish La Liga on Sunday night at the Alfonso Perez. This clash has the prospect of producing a high-scoring thriller as both sides fancy attacking football. Getafe have scored 18 goals and conceded 15, while their opponents have netted 16 and let in 13 which is enough proof that these sides can score and also concede. As the form suggests, back Both Teams to Score at 12/10.

Real Betis 5/2
Draw 5/2
Sevilla 21/20
Real Betis and Sevilla come into this match fresh from getting a point from the two Madrid giants. Betis will feel their point was much more valued as they managed to keep a clean sheet at the Bernabeu. Sevilla are one point behind leaders Barcelona and they should start collecting more points before the two big teams pick up form if they are to ever challenge for the league.

This season is the best chance ever for teams like Sevilla to do the unthinkable as both Madrid and Barcelona might sack their coaches because of poor results, so it’s important for Julen Lopetegui to win these so-called favourable games. Get on Sevilla to win at 21/20.

TREBLE @ 13/2
Real Sociedad Win 6/10
Getafe vs Osasuna BTTS 12/10
Barcelona Win Both Halves 23/20
