This past weekend in sport saw the 2018/19 Premier League come to close and Manchester City win the title. The Mumbai Indians won their record fourth IPL title in a last-ball thriller, and Djokovic beats Tsitsipas to win third Madrid Open title. Mumbai Indians win record fourth IPL title in last-ball thriller

The Mumbai Indians posted a reasonable total of 149 and Proteas’ Quinton de Kock, got the ball rolling as he hit four sixes with his 29 from 17 balls before he found a top edge and was caught by Dhoni.  Kieron Pollard’s late cameo of 41 not out from 25 balls saw Mumbai finished their innings on 149 in their 20 overs.

The Chennai Super Kings started on the front foot as Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson got the run chase off to a good start before du Plessis fell in the third over for 26. Shane Watson held the fort and led the run chase before drama ensued in the last over. With two balls to go Shane Watson was run out and CSK needed two runs form one ball. Lasith Malinga bowled a slower ball yorker that trapped Thakur lbw and won the match for Mumbai.

Djokovic beats Tsitsipas to win third Madrid Open title

Novak Djokovic beat StefanosTsitsipas 6:6 – 6:4 to win the Madrid Open and equal Rafa Nadal’s Master’s trophy haul of 33. Djokovic needed only 91 minutes to beat Stefanos who showed signs of fatigue after he had beaten Rafael Nadal only just 24 hours before the final.

Man City go back to back

On the final day of the English Premier League, Manchester City needed a victory to successfully defend the EPL title as Liverpool were hot on their heels.

Liverpool fans would have thought they had a chance when Brighton’s Glen Murray scored the opener in the 27th minute. But 18 seconds later Sergio Aguero scored the equalizer.

Super Rugby Round 13 Wrap

The Sharks were narrowly beaten by the Chiefs in Hamilton on Saturday morning after two quick tries late in the game sealed the home sides 6 point win.  Brad Weber scored a brace to secure the Chiefs win before the Sharks had an opportunity with the last play to secure a win but knocked the ball on.

Sundowns Clinch Title

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says the support of his assistant coaches and his support staff was partly responsible for the club winning the Premiership title.

Sundowns won their ninth league title on the last day of the season with a victory over Free State Stars, whereas Ea Lla Koto were sadly relegated.

It was Mosimane’s fourth league title which puts him level with the late Ted Dumitru and current Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt.
