It wasn’t the start to the year we had hoped for here at Blog HQ, but hey it’s a new weekend and another chance to write the wrongs of the past. The first of our writers’ tips comes courtesy of Aaron, who is backing an in-form Everton side to get one over Crystal Palace. Our second football tip comes courtesy of Jason, who’s gone for a Villareal win. The final leg of our treble comes courtesy of our rugby side who’s backing Irish club Connacht to produce a shock result against Toulouse.

Crystal Palace 2/1 | Draw 22/10 | Everton 13/10
Crystal Palace will take on an in-form Everton side at Selhurst Park on Saturday. The hosts are without a win in seven matches in all competitions, suffering five defeats, including three on the trot. The Eagles have been horrid on home soil with seven losses from 10 matches and as a result, are placed 17th in the standings with only goal difference separating them from the relegation zone.
Everton have been impressive of late with back-to-back victories, scoring seven goals without conceding. The toffees were absolutely brilliant last time out, thrashing Manchester City 4-0 at Goodison Park – a victory that will surely give them a massive boost in confidence. Ronald Koeman’s side are in red-hot form and will be determined to build on that. They are unbeaten in the last five meetings at Selhurst Park and are well worth a punt at 13/10 to claim maximum points.

Pick: Villareal Win (La Liga)
Villareal 9/10 | Draw 5/2 | Valencia 31/10
Despite Villarreal’s recent dip in form, I still think that they’ll be too good for a floundering Valencia side. The Yellow Submarine return to El Madrigal where they’ve lost just once in their last nine games. Valencia were beaten on both occasions in the league against Villarreal last season – more of the same is expected. Back the home side confidently at 9/10.

Pick: Connacht Win (European Rugby Champions Cup)
Toulouse 1/8 | Draw 28/1 | Connacht 47/10
The final round of the European Rugby Champions Cup group phase gets underway this weekend and there’s a host of quarter-final positions up for grabs. Pool 2 is probably the most open of the groups with Wasps, Toulouse and Connacht all in the running for a place in the next round. Wasps should qualify as group winners, however, as they take on group whipping boys Zebre, while Toulouse and Connacht square off.
Connacht are currently four points ahead of hosts on the group standing, which means Toulouse will have to go in search of a four-try bonus point in order to have any hope of making it through to the next round. This could leave them extremely open on the counter, and with their opponents running in tries for fun this season – they’ve scored 25 tries in their five group games – Toulouse could well end on the wrong side of a high-scoring affair.
Connacht have upset the applecart so many times this season. They’ve been an absolute treat to bet on, netting some massive returns for those who have backed them. I fancy them to payout once again as French sides tend to go to pieces when under pressure to qualify for the next round of these European tournaments.
For The Brave
This week’s for the brave segment comes from our ‘Aguero to Kane Spurs’ price boost. It may sound quite contradictory but were actually backing the men from North London to win this one with talismanic striker Harry Kane spurring them on to victory. The Kane to Score and Spurs to win market is available at 4/1 and we reckon it’s certainly worth a punt.
