F1 2019: Canadian Grand Prix Preview

Formula One 2019: Season Preview

The F1 field makes its first jaunt across the Atlantic this season for the 2019 Canadian Grand Prix, which is taking place on Sunday the 9th of June.

We may have not even reached the midway point of the season but it looks like Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton will canter to the Constructors’ and Drivers’ championship, with the team currently sitting 118 points ahead of Ferrari and Hamilton 55 points clear of Sebastian Vettel. These leads could well be further extended out in Montreal this weekend as the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is a track that the Silver Arrows have dominated on in the recent past.

To Win Race Outright
Lewis Hamilton 11/10
Valtteri Bottas 5/2

Charles LeClerc 5/1
Max Verstappen 25/1
Pierre Gasly 200/1
Daniel Ricciardo 1000/1

Previous Race
We may not have got another Mercedes one-two out in Monaco but the Silver Arrows still dominated the race with Lewis Hamilton claiming first and Valtteri Bottas taking third. Sandwiched between the two Silver Arrows and rounding out the podium, was the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel.

While the podium was dominated by Mercedes, the Top Six feature both Red Bulls with Max Verstappen claiming fourth and Pierre Gasly fifth, while the Mclaren of Carlos Sainz rounded it out.

Monaco was rather kind to Toro Rosso with Danil Kvyat taking seventh and Alexander Albion claiming eighth. The Toro Rosso/Red Bull theme continued further down the field with former Red Bull man Daniel Ricciardo claiming ninth.

The final points position went to Romain Grosjean who brought his Haas home in 10th place.

Track
A firm favourite amongst F1 Fans, the Canadian Grand Prix offers excitement at every turn with high-speed cornering and a kilometre straight that runs onto the aptly named ‘Wall of Champions’.

The Drivers will face thirteen turns, during each of their 70 laps, which include some of the trickiest hairpins on the F1 calendar. As such, braking systems will be heavily tested throughout the race weekend.

In terms of the weather, partly cloudy and sunny conditions are being predicted for all three days. (*Article was written on Wednesday the 5th of June.)

Last year’s race won by Sebastian Vettel with Valtteri Bottas finishing in second and Max Verstappen claiming third.

Value Bet

Podium Finish – Max Verstappen – Yes – @ 9/4
There’s some great value in this one with Verstappen trading at over 2/1 to finish on the podium in  Grand Prix he has enjoyed recent success at. The Red Bull main man finished third in Canada last year and took the fastest lap accolade. I’ll be having a moderate punt on him to land himself on the podium again.

To Win Race Outright – Lewis Hamilton @ 11/10
This is an absolute no-brainer with the ‘Brit in sensational form and having a brilliant record out in Canada having won three of the last four races held at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
