We take a look at the Australian Open second-round matches between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Thanasi Kokkinakis as well as Ashleigh Barty against Daria Gavrilova.
Australian Open 2021
Selected Second Round Matches
Stefanos Tsitsipas 1/10 vs Thanasi Kokkinakis 56/10
Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, the man known as the Greek God by tennis fans, faces world number 267 Thanasi Kokkinakis in this second-round tie. Tsitsipas breezed through his first-round tie against Frenchman Gilles Simon beating him in straight sets. At just 22-years of age he has enjoyed much success, winning five career singles titles as well as making it to the semi-finals of the French and Australian Open. His competitor Australian Kokkinakis also breezed through his first-round match against South Korean Kwon Soon-woo beating him in straight sets. His best finish prior to this was at the French Open in 2015 when making it to the third round, so he is up against it here.
Selection: The lack of big match experience from Kokkinakis should be his demise and will likely result in an easy win for Tsitsipas, but the 1/10 is no real value, so take best out of five sets 3:0 in Tsitsipas’s favour at 7/10.
Ashleigh Barty 1/11 verse Daria Gavrilova 6/1
World number one Ashleigh Barty meets world number 246 Daria Gavrilova in this second-round clash in the Women’s draw. Both ladies brushed aside their opponents in straight sets in the first round to set up this all Aussie affair. Barty has one Grand Slam title to her name winning the Australian Open in 2018 while Gavrilova’s best finish at a Grand Slam was making it to the fourth round in this competition in 2017.
Selection: This should be relatively straight-forward for world number one, take best out of 5 sets 2:0 in her favour at 3/10.
