Race 5

HOKKAIDO has consistent formlines to his credit and had to be eased off the heels of another runner at the 1200M mark and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when finishing second last time out 1500M, beaten just a head, so he can be considered an unlucky loser. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate nine, but he should be doing his best work late.

YET HE MOVES had solid form prior to finishing a disappointing tenth last time out over 1500M, 8.7L adrift of the winner, but he jumped awkwardly and had to be checked off the heels of another runner at the 1200M pole, before coming the widest into the home straight, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding has a handy draw four and should be right up there when they hit the line.

RING AHOY is the stable companion to the top choice and was slow away and held up twice, once between the 350M and 200M mark and then again from the 150m to 100M mark, before ending up in seventh place last time out over 1500M, just over two and a half lengths off the winner. The gelding jumps from gate seven and with better luck in running today, he should be considered a big runner here and he makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.

Race 6

CLEAR CHOICE had his consistency rewarded with a head victory last time out over 1500M, notwithstanding coming three wide into the home straight. He struck the front at the 180M mark and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the line. He has pulled gate five and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

Two 4yr old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to YANKEE HUSSEL who has cracked pole position, but overraced in front and hung out on the home turn when finishing fourth in her latest outing over a mile, three lengths back from the victor. She battled all the way down to the wire that day and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

EAU DE VIE jumped awkwardly, but moved up approaching the home turn, before kicking clear of the opposition and then holding on to record a courageous victory. She gets gate six and will be having her peak run after returning from a 19-week break. She should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, PER INAWAY is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she won over six furlongs three runs back, finished ninth in her penultimate start over 1300M and was then crowded at the 800M mark when finishing a disappointing thirteenth in her latest outing over six furlongs, seven lengths adrift of the winner and was immediately rested for 37 weeks. She returns here after finishing third in both of her barrier trials and from a useful gate two, as well as having 2kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice, she could prove hard to topple.

LEMAIRE has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fourth over six furlongs, just a length behind the winner, returns from a 19-week rest. The gelding had to weave his way through traffic down the home straight in that event, so that effort was encouraging. The gelding returns from a 20-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he has gate five and the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause.

DYNAMIC IMPACT was slow away when finishing sixth last time out over six furlongs, just under five lengths off the winner. He returns from a longer 36-week spell and has also not had a barrier trial, but he is drawn one outside the latter and will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and should not be easily overlooked.

Race 8

TERRA MATER has not finished out of the top three in all of her eight runs to date and battled all the way down to the wire when finishing second last time out over seven furlongs, just under a half lengths behind the victor. She does return from a 19-week break, but she has won both of her barrier trials to showcase her well-being. From her cosy draw four, she could give jockey Nash Rawliller the closing leg of the day’s Jackpot to go along with the opening leg, should the top choice win there.

EUROS jumped awkwardly bumping another runner, but stayed on well to finish second in her latest outing over six furlongs, 3.3L behind the winner. She has her first run after an 18-week spell, but has had three barrier trials, winning the latest and is sure to put her pole position to good use.

GILMORE has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a third-place finish next time out over five furlongs, 1.8L back from the winner, but she was slow away in that event and took a heavy bump shortly after the start, before clipping the heels of another runner at the 400m pole. She has pulled gate five and should be included in all bets.
