Jerry Sikhosana – Legs of Thunder
One of South Africa’s greatest and most loved footballers, Jerry ‘Legs of Thunder’ Sikhosana will be forever remembered for scoring the winning goal against Asec Mimosa in the African Champions Cup final in 1995 – the first time a South African team – at club or international level – had won an international competition.
Jerry’s professional career kicked off in 1991 when the Tembisa-born striker joined Giant Blackpool – a club based in Mohlakeng, Gauteng. He then went on to play for Witbank Aces and Orlando Pirates where he stayed for 5 years, scoring 42 goals in 107 appearances.
His ability to accelerate beyond defenders in the final third was legendary, even earning himself the nickname “Legs Of Thunder” because of his speed and tirelessness, in the fashion of a fictional horse on a local television series back in the 1990s.

In 1999, he joined Chinese side Yunnan Hongta for a short stint. He scored 13 goals in 22 appearances before returning home. Jerry also donned the famous shirts of AmaZulu FC, City Sharks Johannesburg and Tembisa Classic.
During his time with the Sea Robbers, Legs of Thunder enjoyed a rivalry of note with a certain Kaizer Chiefs legend – goalkeeper Brian Baloyi, who’s now his mate and fellow ambassador at the Purple Team!
This included Jerry scoring a landmark hat-trick for the Buccaneers in the 1996 Bobsave Superbowl semi-final in a 4-1 victory against the Amakhosi.
While football fans never really saw much of him in a Bafana Bafana shirt, Jerry did pick up 10 appearances for the South Africa national football team and was part of the squad that travelled to France for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

Today, Sikhosana invests a lot of his time in inspiring up-and-coming players and stays active by playing in the Legends’ League in Tembisa, Johannesburg.
