Race 4

There are two unraced runners in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether either of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for either, or both, should be respected. Of the raced runners HEDGE FUND may prove to be the best. He has finished second in two of his last three starts, the latest over six furlongs, one and a half lengths behind the winner. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and from a handy draw four, he should turn in another honest performance today.

Two 3yr old fillies could chase him home, but I AM JADE is taken to be the slight preference. She put her disappointing penultimate run in very heavy going behind her when finishing second last time out over six furlongs, 0.8L back from the winner, but she had to be held up in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 250M mark, before finishing off her race powerfully, so that effort was encouraging. She gets gate two and will be having her peak run after returning from a 17-week break.

SILENT RAINDROPS finished third on debut over 1100M and then fifth next time out over 1300M, 2.8L off the winner, but she dwelt at the start losing two lengths and had lost a tooth bumping the starting stalls prior to that. She then came four wide into the home straight before being bumped at the 200M and then finally being hampered at the 150M pole. She would have come on further with that run under her belt and whilst drawn wide in gate nine, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 5

SPORTS LEGEND showed plenty of toe when winning his last outing over 1100 by one and a half lengths. The gelding will be having his peak run after returning from a 25-week spell and whilst drawn wide in gate ten, he should use that early gate speed to move across without using up too much gas.

EUROS is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has won two of her last three runs, the latest over 1100M by 1.8L, notwithstanding jumping awkwardly. She recovered quickly to take up the lead that day and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. She has pulled a useful gate four and should be right up there when they hit the line.

KATTEGAT has consistent formlines to his name and raced three wide without cover before staying on well to finish fifth last time out over six furlongs, 1.8L behind the victor and the form of that race has been franked. He jumps from draw six and should be included in all bets.

Race 6

VANCOUVER QUEEN put four lengths between herself and the opposition when winning over five furlongs on debut. She displayed plenty of speed from the jump in that contest and the result was never in doubt form the top of the home stretch. She attracted plenty of betting support that day and although drawn wide in gate eighteen here, she should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

RESISTIBLE was returning from a 24-week absence when showing solid improvement to finish second last time out over six furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner. The break was clearly just what she needed and if she can follow up on that effort, she should be considered a big runner in this line-up, jumping from a cosy draw two.

THE HALO is seldom far off the action and stayed on well when finishing eighth last time out over seven furlongs, just under three lengths back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She is drawn wideish in gate eight, but she should still be involved in the finish.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, ATHLETICA was returning from a 27-week absence when showing marked improvement to finish second last time out over 1100M, just a neck behind the winner, but he had to be held up at the entrance to the home straight that day and then again at the 100M mark, so can be considered an unlucky loser. The gelding is drawn wide in gate nine, but on the plus side, he will get 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and he could give the training partnership of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott a quick double in the day’s Jackpot.

GRAND CRUSADER showed plenty of speed when wining his maiden race last time out over six furlongs, albeit by just a head. He does take on stronger here, but he gets a cosy draw three and will be having his peak run after returning from a 22-week rest.

CAPITAL ASSET has cracked pole position and won his penultimate run over 1300M and then finished fifth last time out over seven furlongs, 2.7L back from the winner, but he stayed on well that day suggesting that the extra ground on offer today will be to his liking.
