Race 2: BRITISH ROYALE(2)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN

The speedy BRITISH ROYALE got back to his best with a smart victory over this trip five weeks ago. He is slightly out at the weights in this higher class today but the bay gelding is progressive and he has experience around the bend. The son of Great Britain is the solitary entrant from his yard on this card.

Race 6: WUKKIN’ UP(1)

Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Sean TARRY

The classy WUKKIN’ UP may have some niggles but she had a very successful last campaign on the Highveld. The chestnut mare completed a hat-trick of victories before getting going late to finish just out of the money at feature level over a mile in May. She returns from a 19-week break and drops in class on her seasonal debut. The Tarry charge is only having her seventh career start and she has good scope for improvement. She is drawn best of all on her track debut.

Race 7: WIND CHILL(4)
Jockey: Chase MAUJEAN – Trainer: Joe SOMA

The three-year-olds could have a big say in this low-key handicap and WIND CHILL gets the nod after her eye-catching maiden victory over subsequent easy winner Miss Turbo over this trip at Turffontein, six weeks ago. The daughter of Silvano was only having her third career start and she was returning from a nine-week break. She will be fitter today and clearly has more to offer. She is the only entrant from her yard on this card.

Race 8: CROWN COURT(12)

Jockey: Callan MURRAY – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

CROWN COURT
produced a high-quality debut over 1450m on this track recently and she should have lots more to offer today. The daughter of Fort Wood finished well for 2nd that day and though she was only 1.25 lengths ahead of the 3rd placed finisher CHAPATI, she gave every indication that she could relish this rise to the mile and confirm the formline. She jumps from a midfield draw and should take a power of beating. The latter was returning from a long absence after her fair debut and she performed well, given the circumstances. She will strip fitter now but the concern is whether this run comes too soon for her.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 1: WILLIAM GRACE(3)

Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

WILLIAM GRACE
has been quietly fancied in the betting market in most of his starts indicating that he has shown the yard some decent work. He brought that to the track in his much improved last two runs and can build on that. The son of Dynasty weakened after moving up well over ten furlongs last time and today’s drop to the mile should prove ideal for him. The runner-up of that start, Record Bid, boosted the formline with a subsequent victory and interestingly this inmate from the Van Zyl yard was gelded a mere four days later. He can stake a serious claim.
