Top Bet
Race 2: NEGROAMARO(1)

Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN RENSBURG

The ultra-consistent top quality filly NEGROAMARO makes a belated seasonal debut after she was withdrawn due to a cough when carded to race on 23/08. Her conditioner is obviously pleased with the grey filly’s progress since. The daughter of Fort Wood had an excellent three-year-old campaign where she proved to be just off the best of her generation and she deserved her 17-week break. She is very well-weighted at this much lower level here and despite the fact that she won’t be tuned-up for this event, the daughter of Fort Wood should claim that deserved third career victory.

Race 3: TAMBALANG(5)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Sean TARRY

TAMBALANG may have some issues but she has improved with each of her three starts and judging by the betting market on those occasions, the daughter of Go Deputy could be rated by her conditioner. She was returning from another short absence when she fought on gamely for a close 2nd over a mile on this track, two weeks ago. She will be much fitter today and her pedigree indicates that this extra furlong should be right up her alley. The Sean Tarry inmate is well drawn and she gets equipped with alumites this time around.

Race 7: SPRINGHILLS(6)
Jockey: Callan MURRAY – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

SPRINGHILLS landed the betting coup with a last-gasp victory on debut over five furlongs, two weeks ago. The son of Redoute’s Choice has clear ability and he doesn’t face the strongest of fields on his handicap debut. His good draw and pace are major assets on his track debut and the Mike de Kock charge should enjoy today’s extra furlong. He has strong claims of following up.

Race 8: WANTED MAN(11)

Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN – Trainer:

WANTED MAN found solid betting support on his promising debut over this trip at the Vaal late last season. The speedy son of A P Answer shifted late but finished a creditable 3rd, beaten just under two lengths and he would have come on appreciably from the experience. This track should suit his running style and the bay gelding should stake a huge claim from his good draw. He is his trainer’s only entrant on the day.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 4: HYPOTHERMIC(5)

Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Tyrone ZACKEY

HYPOTHERMIC proved ineffective over ten furlongs in his last two starts in similar handicaps but he showed good form prior to that and today’s drop in distance could be ideal for the son of Mogok. He stayed on for 2nd at graduation level over this trip three runs back and is still a lightly four-year-oldar old who has further scope for progress. The Tyrone Zackey inmate has a solid track record and he can bounce back to form from his good draw.
