Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Junior Khanye, has expressed his doubts about some of the recent signings made by the club ahead of the upcoming DStv Premiership season.

The 38-year-old Khanye believes that certain players do not merit their positions and has suggested alternative choices.

On Saturday, Chiefs unveiled Tebogo Potsane as their seventh signing, joining Edson Castillo, Ranga Chivaviro, Pule Mmodi, Given Msimango, Mduduzi Mdantsane, and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. However, Khanye contends that Chiefs should have acquired Andile Jali, Khanyisa Mayo, Ricardo Goss, Lesedi Kapinga, and Thulani Serero instead.

“Two years ago, Mdantsane should have come to Chiefs because he and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo are similar players,” remarked Khanye to The Sowetan. “As for Msimango, I don’t think he is better than the former defender of the season Njabulo Ngcobo. However, due to the club’s lost identity and incompatible philosophy, Msimango was never utilized effectively, hindering hTis progress.”

Khanye further questioned the rationale behind signing Msimango, stating, “What has he done at TS Galaxy to earn a place at Chiefs, where the expectations are sky-high?”

Although acknowledging 30-year-old Chivaviro’s commendable performances for Marumo Gallants, particularly in the CAF Confederation Cup, Khanye expressed concerns about his age. He suggested that Chiefs should have pursued Mayo, who recently extended his contract with Cape Town City, citing the young player’s proven ability.

According to Khanye, only Ditlhokwe deserves a spot at Chiefs due to his impressive performances at SuperSport United, where the team conceded few goals. “Modi, who is turning 31 this year, hasn’t made a significant impact at Golden Arrows to justify his inclusion,” Khanye opined. He further advocated for Kapinga, describing him as one of the best players with exceptional quality and potential.

While Khanye recognizes the talent of Potsane, whom he regards as a dynamic addition, he believes that the player has not shown improvement since his debut. Instead, he recommends signing Serero, a player capable of handling the pressure and making a significant impact.

Junior Khanye’s critical assessment of Kaizer Chiefs’ recent signings raises important questions about the team’s decision-making and player selection strategies. With the upcoming season fast approaching, the club will need to address these concerns to meet the high expectations of their fans.
