Kaizer Chiefs have provided an update on the uncertainty surrounding the future of star Zimbabwean player Khama Billiat. As the 32-year-old’s contract with the club ended on June 30, he is now a free agent and can explore opportunities to join any other team.

Amidst claims that Billiat has gone “AWOL,” Vina Maphosa, the communications manager of Kaizer Chiefs, clarified the situation, emphasizing the club’s concern for the player’s safety and expressing the need for clarity regarding his future.

As a highly sought-after free agent, Billiat can choose his next destination in football. While Chiefs tried to secure his services before his contract expired, Billiat has yet to respond, raising questions about his intentions and future.

Kaizer Chiefs released an official statement confirming that they offered Billiat a new contract before his previous one expired. However, since June 29, when he was last seen at Naturena Village, the player has not responded to any calls or messages from the club. Vina Maphosa, to dispel rumors, clarified that Billiat cannot be considered “AWOL” as he is no longer under contract with the club.

“Khama is a marquee player and a very important player we’ve had in recent times. Remember when we signed him, he was not only dubbed a ‘marquee’ player; he was also dubbed ‘the biggest coup’ of the transfer window,” Maphosa said in an interview with Radio 2000.

He also shed some light on Billiat’s recent activities, revealing that the player initially reported for duty during the club’s pre-season preparations. “He participated in medical tests and engaged in light training sessions. However, before the team left for their current camp, Billiat fell ill, preventing his involvement. It is worth noting that as his contract expired on June 30, Billiat is not obligated to participate in training sessions.” Maphosa continued.

As Billiat’s contract with Kaizer Chiefs has expired, the player’s future remains uncertain. The club has expressed a desire for clarity and the opportunity to engage in discussions to reach a favorable resolution. While negotiations have come to a halt due to Billiat’s absence and unresponsiveness, the football world eagerly awaits news regarding his next move.
