Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has questioned the legitimacy of the second goal conceded to Orlando Pirates in their 2-0 DStv Premiership loss on Tuesday.

Zakhele Lepasa opened the scoring at the Orlando Stadium on just nine minutes while Patrick Maswanganyi sealed the result with his goal just 15 minute from time.

But Tinkler is of the opinion that the ball didn’t cross the line for Bucs’ second goal as City rallied to get back into the tie.

The Citizens’ boss has now called for the introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to the South African top flight.

Tinkler told SuperSport after the game: “Obviously we would like to bring technology into our game because it does make a difference.

“Like I said to you, that goal shouldn’t be allowed. The ascendancy that time of the game was with us. We end up losing the ascendancy that time because we 2-0 down so the mindset changes.

“At that stage of the game the players start believing we can get back to the game because they see that we have control of the match. So those mistakes become extremely costly mistakes that referees and linesman are making.

“So, if we can bring in technology to help, we should be doing that.”
