Amakhosi are in need of a new head coach after dispensing with Molefi Ntseki in October. Cavin Johnson has been put in temporary charge of the team until a successor can be found.

Mosimane is without a club after leaving UAE Pro League side Al Wahda and says he wants to join an ambitious team with a clear project, and he isn’t necessarily opposed to taking the Kaizer Chiefs job.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss said on FARPost: “If Maritzburg United which is relegated now, calls me and says bring back the team to the Premier League. I’ll just get the file that I brought back the biggest team in Saudi Arabia, Al Ahli.

“So I’m a professional, I go everywhere as long as you show me the vision and we are aligned. I’ll work for any team, I want to have the energy. I don’t want to wake up and do it for the sake of doing it.

“I need to say why I want to do this, so you ask me about Kaizer Chiefs, what an institution, I mean I supported the team when I was young.

“In fact, Doctor Khumalo’s father used to take me to the matches of Kaizer Chiefs because my Uncle used to play for Kaizer Chiefs.”

Johnson has overseen five matches at Chiefs, winning three and losing two.
