The Stormers beat the Bulls 26-20 in a Cape Town thriller on Saturday for a seventh victory in a row against their northern foe. Despite a mighty effort on the weekend, Jake White’s men remain winless against the Capetonians in the URC but occupy a healthy fourth place on the season’s overall standings. The 2021 champions are eighth and will look to use this latest result as a springboard for an improved run during the remainder of the campaign.

At Thomond Park on Tuesday, Leinster recorded their second win over Munster this season thanks to a 9-3 win. In cold and wet Limerick weather, it was Leo Cullen’s side who ground out the result in another blow to the Red Army, with the visitors holding on to first place on the standings and the Munstermen in sixth.

In other results from a week of derbies, Glasgow put Edinburgh away 22-10 at the Scotstoun, Ulster squeaked past Connacht 20-19 at Kingspan, Zebre fell 24-31 to Benetton at the Stadio Lanfranchi, Cardiff eased to a 55-21 win over Dragons at the Arms Park and Ospreys claimed a 25-11 victory over Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets.

Gallagher Prem R9: Bath and Sale continue to impress

Leaders Bath beat Harlequins 25-17 at The Rec as Johann van Graan’s men maintained their red-hot form, this being their fourth successive win in all competitions. In a proper Christmas cracker on Saturday, the tactical kicking and decision-making of pivot Finn Russell was the difference in the end with ‘Quins copping their fourth defeat of the campaign.

In Manchester on Friday, Sale Sharks did just enough to hold off Saracens 22-20 at the AJ Bell. Paul Deacon’s men are second, just a point off Bath, ahead of their visit to Franklin’s Gardens this weekend. Meanwhile, Saracens’ wobbly season continues with the defending champions now fifth.

Elsewhere, Bristol beat Newcastle 21-13 at Kingston Park, Northampton claimed a 31-29 win at the Kingsholm over Gloucester and Exeter outdid Leicester Tigers 29-10 at Sandy Park.
