Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs were left frustrated after being held to a 0-0 draw by Royal AM at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday.

Despite their efforts during the break due to the Africa Cup of Nations, Chiefs’ attacking woes persisted, managing just 16 goals in 17 league matches so far this season.

The absence of Mozambican defender Edmilson Dove saw Njabulo Ngcobo and Given Msimango partnering in central defence, while Ashley De Preez was preferred over Jasond Gonzales in the attack.

Royal AM dominated much of the first half, with Menzi Masuku and Kabelo Mahlasela posing threats but failing to capitalize.

Though Chiefs relied on counter-attacks, they missed clear opportunities, notably when De Preez failed to convert a one-on-one chance.

Despite late efforts from both teams, including chances for Christian Saile and Keagan Dolly, the match remained deadlocked.

Chiefs’ inability to find the back of the net highlights their ongoing struggle to convert chances into goals, underscoring the need for improvement as they seek to climb the league table.

The draw leaves Chiefs with much to ponder as they aim to address their lack of cutting edge in future fixtures.
