Chiefs let slip a 2-1 lead before a Thabiso Lebitso wonder-goal and Monnapule Saleng heroics sealed a dramatic turnaround win for Pirates.

Saturday’s win was the first time since 2008 that the Buccaneers clinched a league double over Chiefs, and only the second time ever in PSL history.

“When you play a derby, there are 90 000 voices and to hear my voice is like nothing,” Johnson said post-match.

“On the pitch, you have to have the character, and I thought in one moment where they got the ball from to where they go to your goalpost, we could have stopped them long before.

“But it’s about character.

Johnson’s side will be left lingering with a bitter taste after being up 2-1 until the 58th minute before a ten-minute turnaround.

“Like I said, football is made up of moments and in those moments, it’s what we need to improve at as a group and as a player in a team when playing in front of 90 000 people.”

The win sees Pirates jump up to second position in the standings for the time being to occupy a CAF Champions League spot.
