NEWS: ‘It’s a big responsibility,’ – new Orlando Pirates midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja on joining the Sea Robbers

Rasebotja is in Spain with Pirates after completing his big move from SuperSport United before the new season.

The Buccaneers are gearing up for the season in Marbella Football Centre in Malaga.

The 23-year-old has already got a chance to don the famous black and white, which was his dream come true when Pirates played against English Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

The pre-season friendly ended in a 2-2 draw with Evidence Makgopa and Olisa Ndah scoring for the Soweto giants.

“I was excited to represent the club for the first time. It’s a big responsibility, but I took it quite well,” Rasebotja told Orlandopiratesfc.com.

“It can only get better from here. I enjoyed it and I felt really proud of myself for getting the opportunity to represent Pirates.

“Every footballer’s dream is to play for a big club. For an institution like Orlando Pirates to enquire about my services is a big career move, and I looked forward to it with enthusiasm and excitement,” he added.

“So yeah, I’m really excited to join a big club like Orlando Pirates.”

While it is still early days, Rasebotja feels settling in at the new club has been getting better each day.

“From the first day, the guys welcomed me well. As time goes on, I’ll get used to them and we’ll gel on the field. It’s a work in progress. We’ll take it one day at a time,” he said.

Rasebotja said they will be targeting a win when they play their second pre-season game against Sevilla at Ramón Cisneros Palacios at 21:00, South African time.

The player said they are aware that Sevilla, who are the most successful club in the Europa League with seven titles, would be a tougher opponent compared to Plymouth.

“Sevilla is one of the top teams in Spain, and we would like to play against the best to also showcase what we are capable of,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to getting out there and competing against a good team like Sevilla, and hopefully we get the result that we want as well. We’ll play to win as always.”
