Edgbaston – Birmingham

West Indies will draw some positives from an improved performance in the second Test but can’t be too happy with how they finished the match after a bright start.

The West Indies’ last trip to Edgbaston ended in an innings defeat while England suffered a loss to Australia in a tight Test match in their last outing in the format in Birmingham.

To Win Match
England 1/8 | Draw 11/1 | West Indies 9/1

England should be pleased with how their batting came to the party in the previous match with three players scoring hundreds.

Ollie Pope has shown himself to be the form batter in this team but Harry Brook doesn’t appear too far behind.

Crucially senior man Joe Root was also in the runs in the second Test although there is some concern about the play of skipper Ben Stokes.

Mark Wood is breathing fire and England seems to have found the best way to use him on home tracks which will be giving the West Indies some sleepless nights.

That Kevan Hodge hundred stands out as the performance of the tour so far for the West Indies but the clutching to that as a positive betrays how far this team have fallen.

The West Indies have looked second-tier throughout most of the series even if they have occasionally found ways to put England under pressure.

While the series may be lost the West Indies still have World Test Championship points to play for in this match.

The West Indies bowlers need to stick to their guns when it comes to taking on the aggressive English batting with Jayden Seales the most threatening of the group.

Verdict: England 1/8

England are bounding towards a whitewash in this one.
