Riviero stated that Gilberto is adjusting very well to the team and anticipates that he will be one of the key players in the upcoming season.

The forward was signed by the Buccaneers from the Angolan Girabola champions, Petro du Luanda, on a three-year deal.

His impressive performance during the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast earlier in 2024 caught the attention of many, leading to his acquisition by the Buccaneers.

The 23-year-old has already started to make an impact, having been part of the Sea Robbers’ pre-season camp in Spain, where he scored a goal in a 1-1 draw against Granada.

“I can tell you that he (Gilberto) settled in very well in the group, he’s a very open guy and our group in that sense is really special as well,” Riviero said.

“There’s a lot of young players that have a lot of common things with Gilberto, we all are trying to help him to, first of all, express himself on the field.

“To try to play soon in the best of his capacity, but at the same time trying to help him to feel comfortable in the group and that’s something that we did very well in my opinion.

“And his personality is fun with the capacity to attract his mates, get their attention from the first day. He is a humble guy.

“We still have no complaints about his behaviour in these 3 -4 weeks that he’s been around.

“So, I think it’s going to be one of the, one of our key players.”

The Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, are gearing up to defend their MTN8 title this Saturday. They will be hosting SuperSport United in the first quarter-final clash at Orlando Stadium.

Kick-off is at 18:00.
