This match will be the first for Australia at the Grange while the teams have played each other just once in T20 cricket. That came during the World Cup earlier this year with Australia winning by five wickets.

Scotland vs Australia | First T20I | Wednesday 4 September 2024 | Grange Cricket Club, Edinburgh | 15:00

Scotland

Promising young fast bowler Charlie Cassell made an impressive debut in ODI cricket in July and will hope to make a similar splash if he gets his chance in a T20I.

Scotland should look to George Munsey to give them early impetus in their innings whether chasing or establishing a target.

Skipper Richie Berrington could be the key man in the middle order if he gets the platform to launch from.

Safyaan Sharif has shown he can get the ball to move early on and he is a great candidate to pick up the first scalp of the match for Scotland.

Australia

Mitchell Marsh will remain Australia’s captain despite the team’s failure to go past the Super Eights stage of the T20 World Cup. Several members of that group have made it to the present tour squad.

However, experienced campaigners Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell have been given a break, while Josh Hazlewood missed out due to a calf strain and Spencer Johnson suffered an injury during the Hundred.

Riley Meredith is in line to make his international return following a three-year absence with the fast bowler called into Australia’s squad.

Adam Zampa was brilliant during the Hundred and could be the bowler to lift Australia in this series.

Verdict: Australia

Australia should have the firepower to overcome Scotland.
