England have a great T20I record in Cardiff winning eight of their nine matches at the venue in this format. Australia lost the only T20I they have played at Sophia Gardens falling just short while chasing down England’s 182 which is still their best score at the ground.

England vs Australia | Second T20I | Friday 13 September 2024 | Sophia Gardens, Cardiff | 19:30

England

England may have come up well short but one man who brought a lot to the table in the opening T20I was Liam Livingstone who made 37 and took three wickets at key moments. Livingstone factors as someone who could end up as the pick of the bowlers and the top-scorer.

The hosts would like to get their explosive top-order firing and will look to Phil Salt, who is standing in as skipper to take the attack to Australia.

Sam Curran needs to bounce back after the mauling he suffered in Southampton and will want to play in this match to ensure he responds immediately.

Adil Rashid looked like England’s most dangerous bowler but they need to figure out how to use their attack in a more efficient manner.

Australia

Travis Head’s brutal blitz to 59 was the clear difference between the two sides and every match the batter plays in he will have a chance to blow the opponents away as one of the most destructive top order batters in T20I cricket.

Adam Zampa might be the form leg-spinner in all T20s at the moment as well just giving Australia that extra boost, but Sophia Gardens might be a challenging venue for Zamps.

Sean Abbott has been dangerous with the new ball and is a good candidate to claim the first scalp in the match for Australia.

Josh Inglis continues to threaten breakout knocks and might do some damage if given the time and the platform.

Verdict: Australia

Australia have a better-balanced side and are playing the better T20I cricket at the moment.
