Race 7

MAYFAIR has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a second-place finish next time out over 1100M (G3), three lengths back from the winner, but he stayed on well that day, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. The colt is drawn wideish in gate eight, but he should be doing his best work late.

CLEAR PROOF has only had two runs to date, winning on debut over 1100M and then finishing second in a Listed event next time out over 1100M, 1.8L behind the winner, but he ran on strongly from some way back that day and his jockey out up 1kg overweight. He would have come on further with that run under his belt and from gate six, he should be right up there when they hit the wire.

LAST COMMAND has won two of his last three starts, the latest over 1250M by one and a half lengths, when returning from a 21-week break. He was slow away that day and came the widest of them all into the home straight, but struck the front at the 150M mark and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide gate ten, but nevertheless, he should be included in all bets.

Race 8

STORM BOY won last time out over 1100M (G3) by putting three lengths between himself and the opposition when returning from a 21-week break. He showed plenty of toe that day and despite his jockey dropping his crop at the 100M mark, he still went on to record a comfortable victory. The colt has pulled gate six and could give the training partnership of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott the first two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

BUSTLING is a four-time winner from five starts and has finished second in the other, so he clearly has some ability, with his latest victory coming last time out over 1400M (G3) by two and a half lengths. The gelding struck the front at the top of the home straight that day and the result of the contest was never in doubt from that point. He has his first run for his new trainer and returns from a 19-week rest, but he has had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and winning the latest. If fully settled into his new surroundings and from a useful draw two, he should give a good account of himself here.

TRAFFIC WARDEN won over 1400M (G3) three runs back, finished fourth in his penultimate start over 1200M (G1) and then second in his latest outing back over 1400M, beaten just a short-head, but he bled that day and was suspended for the mandatory three months. The colt returns here after 23 weeks, but has had two barrier trials, winning the latest and although drawn wideish in gate seven, he gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause.

Race 9

CELESTIAL LEGEND completed his hat-trick when winning his last start over 1600M (G1) by 0,8L, despite jumping awkwardly, bumping another runner and having to be checked off heels shortly thereafter and then finally, being held up between the 400M and 200M mark. He does have his first run after a 23-week rest, but has finished fourth in both of his barrier trials and from his handy draw three, he looks hard to oppose and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

BASES LOADED had his consistency rewarded with a two-length victory last time out over 1600M (G3). He went from jump to wire that day and from his wide draw fifteen, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today. Although returning from a 13-week rest, he has had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and winning the latest and could prove to be the biggest danger to the top pick.

WHINCHAT has won three of his last four starts, the latest over 1400M by 1.3L. He was bumped at the start in that event, but recovered quickly to take up the lead and then managed to keep all the late contenders at bay in the run down to the line. The gelding returns from a longer 26-week break, but has had three barrier trials, winning the latest. From his kinder draw six, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 10

The day’s value bet, OSTRAKA has turned in a third, a second and a win in his last three outings, the latest victory coming over 1200M by 2.8L and was immediately rested for 14 weeks and moved to another yard. He raced just behind the leaders that day and then kicked clear of the field at the 120M mark for a well-timed win. The gelding faces a wide draw thirteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

BLANC DE BLANC is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position and showed solid improvement in her last two starts, the latest when finishing second over 1100M, two lengths back from the winner. She was returning from a 23-week spell that day and was bumped at the start before not getting the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 200M mark, before finishing off her race well.

UNFLINCHING has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when third over 1000M, just a length behind the winner, notwithstanding his jockey dropping his left rein at the 150M pole. The gelding returns from a 23-week spell, but has won both of his barrier trials to showcase his well-being. He has pulled gate five and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and should not be easily overlooked.
