Race 5

TRUE TO FORM missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over 1300M when finishing second last time out over 1400M, 0.8L behind the winner, this after trying to go from jump to wire. The form of that race has been franked and from draw six and with him having 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.

APOLLO MISSION on the other hand goes for his hat-trick, after wins over 1200M and the latest over 1400M by three lengths, despite being slow away. He finished powerfully from some way back that day and has won a subsequent barrier trial. From his handy draw four, the trio is very much on the cards.

SIR ARTIE was having his first run for his new trainer and was slow away before delivering a strong finish to win his last start over 1300M, albeit by just a head. The form of that race has been franked and whilst he will have to negotiate a wideish draw seven, on the plus side he will have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 6

BONITA QUEEN is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has her hat-trick run after two wins over 1100M and the latest over 1600M by putting two and a half lengths between herself and the opposition and she has won a subsequent barrier trial. She jumped awkwardly that day, but recovered quickly to take up the lead and then strode away for a comfortable victory.

PERENNIAL had his consistency rewarded with a head victory last time out over 1000M, when returning from a 17-week rest. He struck the front at the 320M mark in that event and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding gets gate five and the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause.

FIRE STAR has cracked pole position and put his tad disappointing penultimate start over 1000M behind him when finishing third next time out over 1100M, just over a half-length back from the winner. He raced up with the pace on that occasion and then battled all the way down to the line. If able to confirm that last effort, he should be included in all bets.

Race 7

I AM UNSTOPPABLE finished ninth last time out over 1100M, just over six lengths behind the winner, but that was in a Listed event, and he was immediately moved to a new stable and rested for 27 weeks. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and winning the latest and now has his first run for his new trainer. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, jumping from draw seven to give trainer Ciaron Maher his second winner in the Jackpot, should the top pick win the opening leg and is also taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

HARD TO SAY followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a sixth-place finish next time out over the same sprint trip, just over one and a half lengths back from the winner. He showed plenty of toe that day and the drop in distance will be to his liking. The gelding has his first run after a shorter 20-week rest but has had the two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest and he is likely to put his pole position to good use.

RENOSU also won his penultimate start, but in his case over 1000M and then finished ninth next time out over 1100M, just under five and a half lengths back from the victor, but he did race three wide throughout that day. He resumes after a 23-week absence, but has had two barrier trials, winning them both to showcase his well-being and will have Zac Lloyd in the saddle.

Race 8

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners and a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. ANDERSON BRIDGE was trapped wide throughout and not unsurprisingly had nothing to offer over the closing stages to end up in the sixteenth spot last time out in the Queensland Derby, 47.3L adrift of the winner. He returns here after an 18-week break, but has had two barrier trials, winning the latest. The gelding has pulled gate five and the engaging of champion jockey James McDonald catches the eye and the gelding could give him a quick double, should the top choice win the previous race.

SWEYSIVE has finished second in his last three outings, the latest over 1600M by a half-length. He chased hard all the way down to the wire that day and from his useful draw two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

Although GROUNDRUSH is recorded as finishing fifth last time out over 1600M, he was just 1,8L back from the winner and he clipped the heels of another runner at the 400M pole and was then disappointed for a run at the 200M mark, so he had his excuses. From a wideish gate eight and with better luck in running here, he should not be lightly dismissed.
