There aren’t any natural frontrunners in this opening contest on the all-workrider maiden raceday but it is still hard to envisage that there won’t be a solid gallop. The likely short-priced favourite SEA BEAN had two useful runs over seven furlongs to date and her pedigree indicates that she is ‘crying out’ for this extra ground. The Woodruff inmate clearly has lots of scope for improvement and she should go very close with top workrider Semela in the saddle.
Race 2: PRIVATE SWAROVSK(2)
Jockey: Goodman DADAMASI – Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF
Just seven runners head to post for this ten furlong contest where another Woodruff inmate should dominate the betting boards. PRIVATE SWAROVSKI has progressed steadily with experience and the gelding seems to have assisted the son of Brave Tin Soldier who has his peak showing today. He has met much stronger rivals in all three career runs to date and should take a power of beating with a classy workrider in the saddle. The extra distance shouldn’t pose an issue for the top rating.
Race 3: GOTOLUVHER(11)
Jockey: Francis SEMELA – Trainer: Louis GOOSEN
GOTOLUVHER was quietly fancied when she produced a highly promising debut over this c & d, three weeks ago. The speedy daughter of Trippi was outrun late into 3rd and it was a most creditable performance, considering her jockey’s saddle slipping. The experience would have brought her on considerably and the inmate from the Louis Goosen yard should take a power of beating, particularly from her favourable draw. She gets the services of former champion workrider Semela.
Race 5: MOSS GAS(10)
Jockey: Phelisile MONQAWA – Trainer: Paul PETER
The filly MOSS GAS had a below-par last run at Turffontein but that formline has worked out really well and she could have a big say here from her favourable draw. The speedy daughter of The Sheik finished close-up in back-to-back performances prior to that. She should still be followed with confidence even if the runner-up of her last outing, Couldyoube, fluffs her lines in the 3rd race on today’s card. The latter is unfavourably drawn in that big field.

There should be a hot pace in this five furlong dash where MUSIC MAKER is expected to pick up the pieces in the closing stages. The four-year old daughter of Mogok had two decent comeback runs in back to back workrider events over this distance but was probably drawn on the wrong side of the track when faring poorly last time out. However, the 3rd placed finisher Gunship boosted the formline with a good victory next time out and this bay could improve in this weaker company.
