Race 6

DOLPHINA is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she made marked improvement when finishing second last time out over ten furlongs, just under half a length behind the winner. She hit the front at the 200M mark that day and was only run out of it very late. She has cracked pole position and should enjoy the drop in distance.

BLAZING ZONE won over a mile three runs back and has then followed that up with a third and a second-place finish in his next two runs over the same trip, the latest when one length back from the winner. The gelding made good late progress in that event suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He gets a handy draw three and should be right up there when they hit the line.

DESERVED is a 5yr old mare who finished sixth in her latest start over a mile, but just two and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She faces a wide draw thirteen, but she is likely to be dropped out of it early and then start to pick off the frontrunners in the dash down to the wire.

Race 7

There are eight unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners and as with the previous race, the field could be led home by a 4yr old filly in the form of MOON DANCER who tried to go from jump to wire before ending up in fifth place last time out over six furlongs, just under two lengths behind the winner. She returns from a 21-week rest, but did finish second in her only barrier trial to prove her fitness. From gate six, she should give the males a good run for their money.

OBLIQUE disappointed when finishing ninth last time out over six furlongs just under ten lengths behind the winner when returning from a shorter 18-week rest. He now has his first run after a 17-week break but did finish third in his only barrier trial. From a wide gate ten, the gelding will be hoping to bounce back to his better form.

RIVERBANK RAT finished well despite hanging out over the closing stages, finishing fourth in his latest outing over five furlongs, just a length back from the victor. He will have to negotiate a wide draw fifteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, RHAPSODY IN BLUE is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she made solid improvement to win her last outing over six furlongs by a short-head. She kicked clear of the field at the 100M pole that day and then fought off the chasing pack courageously. She jumps from a cozy draw three and will have the cheekpieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, she should be a big runner here.

BIG DAY OUT disappointed in heavy going last time out finishing ninth over 1180M, eight and a half lengths back from the winner, but he is drawn one inside the top choice and will have his peak run after returning from a 17-week absence. In addition, he will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice to aid his cause.

ALL FORMIDABLE won his penultimate start over six furlongs by some three lengths and then jumped awkwardly when ending up in last place next time out over the same trip, 13.6L adrift of the winner, but that was at a stronger centre. He jumps from a handy draw four and he may well do better in this type of company.

Race 9

DEVINE MISS has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over five furlongs and then making the expected improvement to win next time out over 1100M by three lengths when returning from a 21-week break. No doubt she would have come on further with that run under her belt and from gate three, she is taken to be the best bet on the day’s program.

SPRITLEY MISS is also lightly raced having had just the three outings, but she won over by 900M at the second time of asking and then finished second over the same c&d last time out, just a neck behind the winner. She is a speedy sort, so her wide draw ten may not be such a big issue to overcome.

PUNKZY finished eighth over a mile in her last outing over a mile, 8.8L back from the winner and was immediately moved to a new yard and rested for 51 weeks. She returns here after having won her only barrier trial and has a kinder draw two. The fact that her connections have brought her back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that she still has something more to offer them.
