Race 4.

DE FORERUNNER is seldom far off the action and raced just behind the leaders before finishing second in his last start over seven furlongs, 2.8L behind the winner, but did win over this distance three runs back, so the drop in trip seems likely to suit him. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, but he should use that early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. LIPSTICK LIL is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with a one length victory last time out over six furlongs. She came three wide into the home straight before hitting the front at the 200M mark and then held off all the late challengers. She gets a handy gate three and should give the males a good run for their money. THE DROVER had solid form before being a tad disappointing when finishing nineth last time out over six furlongs, just under eight lengths back from the winner when returning from a 22 week break. However, it should be noted that he jumped awkwardly and was hampered at the 900M pole before coming the widest of them all into the home stretch, so that effort is best ignored. Despite a wide draw ten, he should be included in all bets.

Race 5.

CLEM FANDANGO has finished second and third in his last two outings, the latest over ten furlongs, 2.8L behind the winner. He looked a possible winner that day when striking the front at the top of the straight, but he was eventually run out of it late. From a cozy draw two, he looks to be the one to side with here. PRIVATE DETECTIVE has cracked pole position and finished seventh last time out over 2300m, 6.3L adrift of the winner, but was nevertheless staying on well that day and will get 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice to aid his cause. PORT OF JEDDAH is a 6yr old mare taking on males, but she put her disappointing penultimate effort firmly behind her when finishing strongly to win her last start over 2100M by 0.8L, notwithstanding coming six wide into the home straight. She faces a wideish gate nine, but she should be doing her best work late.

Race 6.

ON A PROMISE completed his quartet of victories when winning his last two starts over today’s distance, the latest by a neck. He finished well that day and has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. He will have to negotiate draw ten, but he will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice and should be doing his best work late. As such, the gelding is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. LARYNX on the other hand missed out on his hat-trick when finishing second in his latest outing over seven furlongs, just a length behind the winner, but the form of that race has been franked. He is drawn one inside the top choice and should keep him honest. TWICE ON SUNDAY is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she was bumped down at the start when ending up in eighth place last time out over 1300M, three and a half lengths off the winner. She was returning from a 17 week rest that day and from draw six, she should not be easily dismissed.

Race 7.

The day’s value bet, NEWTOWN IS COMING stayed on well when fourth last time out over 1100M, 2.7L behind the winner and the form of that contest has been franked. He jumps from gate six and should be right up there when they hit the line. COSMIC SERENADE is a 3yr old filly taking on boys, but she followed up her penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a third spot finish in her latest outing over the same sprint distance, just under two lengths back from the winner. She is a speedy sort who is sure to put her draw two to good use. SUPERIOR POWER also won his penultimate start over five furlongs, and was then a tad disappointing when ending up in tenth place last time out over the same five furlong trip, nine lengths behind the winner, but the form of that race has been franked. He shows plenty of toe in his races and should use that early speed to shift across with consuming too much gas. The gelding will be hoping to bounce back to some of his better form today.
