Race 4

RULE OF LAW showed marked improvement to win his last start over this c&d by one and a half lengths, this despite being bumped shortly after the start. He was returning from a lengthy 40-week break that day and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding hit the front entering the home straight and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. From his handy draw three, he looks to be the one to side with here.

WARRIOR HERO has consistent formlines to his name, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, just under a length behind the winner. He jumped awkwardly that day and had to be held up at the top of the home straight and then only saw daylight at the 300M mark before finishing off his race well. He jumps from gate five and should turn in another honest performance today.

HE’S SUPER LUCKY has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when third over five furlongs, two lengths adrift of the victor when returning from a longer 75-week absence. He was denied a run between the 400M and 300M marks before making good late progress when a gap finally opened. He faces a wideish draw eight, but on the plus side, he will get 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.

Race 5

MISS EINSTEIN is a 6yr old mare taking on the boys, but she is seldom far off the action, finishing fifth in her latest outing over 1500M, two lengths back from the winner, this after jumping awkwardly and coming four wide into the home stretch. She faces a wide draw eleven, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages of the contest.

ATLANTIC KING won over this trip three runs back and then put his disappointing penultimate effort over nine furlongs firmly behind him when finishing sixth last time out when dropping back to a mile, three lengths adrift of the victor. He is drawn one outside the top choice and also jumped awkwardly and came four-wide into the home straight in that last start, so should have finished closer to the winner as a result.

MAJELLA is a 7yr old mare who showed solid improvement when ending up in second place last time out over a mile, 0.8L behind the winner. She did not get the clearest of passages in the straight that day and her jockey put up 0.5kgs overweight. She has pulled a wideish gate eight but will get the services of ex-SA jockey Glyn Schofield, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 6

The day’s best bet, QUATENUS is lightly raced, having only had the four runs to date, but has recorded two wins, a second and a third-place finish, so clearly, she has some ability. She missed out on her hat-trick when finishing third last time out over five furlongs, 1.7L behind the winner. She attracted plenty of betting support that day and came five wide into the home straight, before battling all the way down to the line. On that effort, she should enjoy the extra ground on offer today.

She renews her rivalry with AUTHENTIC JEWEL who has won two of her last three runs, the latest being the race referred to above. She is a speedy sort who may not be as suited to the extra furlong as the former and will, in any case, face the top choice on 2kgs worse terms, so she may find it difficult to confirm that last result.

RUBINOCCHI is another who may be best suited to the shorter five-furlong sprint and is drawn one outside the latter. She did finish second in that same race mentioned above, 1.3L behind the winner and as she is 1.5kgs better off at today’s weights, there should not be much separating the pair when they hit the line.

Race 7

With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s value bet, RUBAMOS to chalk up his third career victory. He jumped awkwardly but recovered well to get to the head of affairs last time out over seven furlongs, before ultimately getting grabbed in the shadow of the post to lose by a short-head. He jumps from gate six and is likely to adopt similar tactics today.

MENSA MISSILE overraced in the early stages and then came three-wide into the home straight when finishing second last time out over six furlongs, just a half-length off the winner. He was returning from a 25-week absence that day and from his cozy draw two, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

TOO MUCH LIPPY is drawn one outside the latter and is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she goes for her hat-trick after wins over 1350M and the latest over this c&d by a half-length. She struck the front at the 150m and then showed plenty of determination to secure that victory. She should give the boys a good run for their money.
