The previous round of fixtures went to defenders & goalkeepers as 8 of the 18 topflight clubs in action kept clean sheets. One of which was Brentford who ended their freefall which saw the Bees lose 5 consecutive league fixtures.

Everton’s 3-0 victory over Leeds saw the Toffees pick up their biggest league win to nil this season starring Donny Van De Beek who completed his first full league 90 on English soil.

Upon completion of this matchday, we will have just under a third of the season remaining, but before that, here are 5 stats to consider:

Red-hot Ramsey

Jacob Ramsey has got on the score sheet in back to back home league futures and will be looking to make it 3 in a row. His impressive performances on the pitch have fast tracked him to becoming a hometown hero and his appeal this weekend will be strengthened by the fact that Aston Villa have not blanked at home in the league this season. The academy graduate has scored 5 league goals this term- making him their joint top scorer (alongside Ollie Watkins).

Toothless Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have scored just 10 away league goals this season – only Burnley (8), Newcastle (7), and Norwich (6) have scored fewer from all top-flight clubs. The club have found the back of the net 28 times in their 22 league fixtures – which puts them outside of the top 10 for goals scored from all top-flight clubs. Furthermore, Spurs have benefitted from three opposition own goals this season, which is more than any other side. Having been unbeaten in their first 9 league fixtures under Conte, Tottenham have now lost their previous 3 and desperately need to put some points on the board. It doesn’t help that Conte has hit out at the club for their lack of January transfer activity.

Wolves’ home woes

Wolves have blanked in 4 of their previous 5 home league fixtures, with the exception being a 3-1 win against Southampton. In fact, they have scored just 8 home league goals this season – the fewest from all top-flight clubs. Only Watford (9), Norwich (8) and Brentford (7) have more home league losses than Wolves have (5). Conversely, Wolves have raked up 4 straight away league victories (for the first time this century).

Woeful Watford

Watford have lost their previous 6 home league fixtures – failing to score in their previous 3. Furthermore, they are the only club yet to register a home clean sheet this season. Roy Hodgson certainly has his work cut out for him and is set to oversee 3 league fixtures within the space of a week. The Hornets travel to Aston Villa, then they’re at home to Crystal Palace in the week before making the trip to Old Trafford next Saturday. Oh, and Danny Ings has scored four times in his last three matches against the Hornets.

Rejuvenated Toon

Newcastle United have scored from a direct free-kick goal in each of their previous 3 league fixtures. Jonjo Shelvey started off the trend against Leeds United before January signing Kieran Trippier made it 2 in 2 against Everton and Aston Villa respectively. The Magpies went on to win those 3 league fixtures, which means only Liverpool (4) are on a longer winning streak in the English top flight.
