Race 5

This looks to be a tricky race to start the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. To complicate matters further, there are two unraced runners in the field, so a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether either of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for these runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, DUBAI SHOWGIRL may prove to be the best. She is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys and was slightly disappointing last time out after finishing second in her two runs prior to that, ending up in fourth spot over six furlongs, just over seven lengths behind the winner. She was returning from a 19 week break that day and did come three wide into the home straight, before staying on well over the closing stages. She has cracked pole position and should enjoy the extra ground on offer here. Her stable companion, CALIFORNIA PRESS has only had the two outings to date, finishing third over 1300M on debut and then fourth last time out when dropping down to six furlongs, 4.8L back from the winner. He returns from a 35 week break, but has had the two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and second in the latest. From gate three, he represents a solid back-up for the yard.

MISS ADRENALIN is another 3yr old filly in the contest. She came three wide into the home stretch when finishing third in her latest outing over five furlongs, two and a half lengths off the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She faces a wide draw ten, but she should be doing her best work late.

Race 6

MEDIARO followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with an official fourth place finish last time out over nine furlongs, just a neck behind the winner, but he did in fact win that race, but shifted out from the 50M mark and was demoted after a successful objection. So, he is in reality, a winner without a penalty and from his handy draw three, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

CREDIT CRUNCH is the stable mate to the top choice and is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she showed solid improvement to win her maiden race last time out over nine furlongs by half a length. She raced just behind the leaders that day before striking the front at the 250M mark and then holding off the chasing pack in the drive down to the wire. She takes on stronger and will have to negotiate gate eleven, but she may well be up to the task at hand.

BASTIDA was friendless in the betting markets but showed marked improvement to finish second last time out over 2300M, just a head behind the winner. He kicked clear of the field at the 200M pole and was only run out of it late. On that effort, he should enjoy today’s shorter journey.

Race 7

CALGARY KING has consistent formlines to his name and finished strongly to just fail to overhaul the leaders when ending up in third spot last time out over 1300M, finishing just a neck behind the winner. He jumps from a cozy draw two and should turn in another honest performance here when trying to record his second career victory.

NEVER CRY has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when fourth over 1300M, 1.3L adrift of the victor. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and has his peak run after returning from a 21 week absence. Jumping from gate six, he should be competitive in this line-up.

AMERICAN PRESIDENT took too long to get going before finishing third last time out over five furlongs, but stayed on well suggesting that he should appreciate the extra ground on offer today. He will have to overcome gate nine, but he will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so should get all the necessary assistance from the saddle and should be included in all bets.

Race 8

Three 4yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s value bet, TRAVELLING KATE gets the nod for top pick. She has finished second in her last two starts over 1300M and the latest over 1500M just a short-head back from the winner, notwithstanding coming five wide into the home straight and being reported as having blood in one of her nostrils. She finished strongly that day and from a wide draw ten, she should be doing her best work late.

DIVINE FUTURE in turn has finished second in two of her last three outings, the latest over 1300M, beaten a head. She stayed on well in that contest and from a kinder gate seven, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

VANILLA SKY made solid improvement in her last two starts and jumped awkwardly before finishing second in the latest over 1500M, one and a half lengths behind the winner. She will have to overcome a wide gate eleven, but Keagan Latham may be able to coax a little more out of her to claim her second career win.
