Desh Parthab takes a look at some things you need to consider before taking your DStv Premiership bets this weekend.

DStv Premiership

The midweek set of fixtures gave us a glimpse into the form of some of the top-flight clubs. Maritzburg United emerged from Ellis Park with a point thanks to Keegan Ritchie’s equaliser against Sekhukhune.

Chippa put another point on the board to move four clear of the drop ahead of this round of fixtures. Supersport went in search of only their third away league win but let a two-goal lead slip against Pirates, eventually going down 3-2. They have another attempt to get that elusive third away victory in this weekend’s fixtures.

With that and more PSL action to look out for, here are a few players who could be in the thick of things this time out.

Watertight Gallants

Marumo Gallants have kept four clean sheets across their last six outings in all competitions. There has been a change in the nets, which has had a knock-on effect on the defensive unit. King Ndlovu has been promoted to a starting place where he has kept three consecutive league clean sheets for Gallants.

Galaxy goal drought

TS Galaxy haven’t found the back of the net across their previous 270 league minutes. Following Galaxy’s exit from the Nedbank Cup against Baroka, their bid to avoid the drop will take centre stage and it continues with a bout against Supersport United. Galaxy have scored 16 league goals this campaign, only Baroka (13) and Swallows (11) have scored fewer from all topflight clubs.

Majestic Mayo

Cape Town City have scored 4 goals in their 5 fixtures since the turn of the year. Khanyiso Mayo has been directly involved in all of them. The attacker bagged 3 and helped himself to an assist, setting up Craig Martin. Mayo comes up against a Gallants side that hasn’t kept a clean sheet across their previous 3 away league fixtures.

Magic Macuphu

Royal AM (W5 D1) are undefeated since the turn of the year. Whilst you can hardly debate their strong results, four of those five wins have come by a one-goal margin. Mxolisi Machapu has hit the ground running since making the switch from TS Galaxy to Royal AM. He has bagged three goals in four league appearances since making the switch and comes up against a Stellenbosch side that hasn’t kept a clean sheet across their previous 3 league outings.

Rayners

Iqraam Rayners has bagged 2 goals and registered an assist across his previous six outings. The forward will be crucial to SuperSport pushing for a top-half finish come the end of the season. Matsatsantsa have found the back of the net 26 times, with only Orlando Pirates (27), Royal AM (28) and Mamelodi Sundowns (40) netting on more occasions. Supersport travel to a TS Galaxy side that have failed to keep a clean sheet across their previous four home league fixtures.
