Race 7

The day’s value bet, SUREFIRE missed out on his hat-trick when finishing second last time out in a Group 3 event over twelve furlongs, just a half length behind the winner. The first of those wins was recorded at Royal Ascot over 2406M and then he won his first start in Australia over ten furlongs by just over half a length. He made good late progress that day suggesting that he should enjoy the extra ground on offer here. The gelding will have to negotiate draw twelve, but he is likely to be doing his best work late.

CRYSTAL PEGASUS is a 5-year-old mare taking on males and is the stable companion to the top choice. She completed her quartet of victories over a variety of different distances last time out when winning by 1.3L over twelve furlongs. She hit the front at the 150M mark that day and then powered home over the closing stages. She faces a wide draw eighteen, but gets the services of NSW champion Jamie Kah, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle. She makes a solid back-up for the powerful Chris Waller yard.

THE CHOSEN ONE jumped awkwardly and was then crowded at the 500M mark before not getting the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 150M pole in a Group 1 race over twelve furlongs, ending up in third place, four and a half lengths back from the winner. From a kinder draw five and with better luck in running today, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

Race 8

VERRY ELLEEGANT is a 6yr old mare taking on males and followed up her penultimate run victory in a Group 1 event over a mile with a second spot finish next time out also in a Group 1 race, but over ten furlongs, two lengths behind the winner. She won the Melbourne Cup last year and from draw seven, she could add to her already impressive list of twelve Group 1 wins.

ANAMOE has won two of his last three runs, the first a Group 2 race over seven furlongs and the latest a Group 1 event over ten furlongs when putting six and a half lengths between himself and the opposition, despite casting an off-hind shoe. The run between those two victories resulted in a second place finish in a Group 1 race over a mile. He jumps from gate five and is a worthy challenger to the top choice.

ZAAKI is another who has won two of his last three runs, the first a Group 1 race over ten furlongs and the latest winning the All-Star Mile by one and a half lengths. Squeezed between those wins was a second place finish in a Group 2 event over a mile and from gate three, he could complete the trifecta here.

Race 9

COLETTE has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when second in a Group 1 event over 1500M, 1.3L adrift of the victor, this despite being hampered entering the home stretch. She backs up that form by having finished second in a Group 2 event over seven furlongs three runs back and then eight over a mile in a Group 1 race in her penultimate start. From a wideish draw nine, she could give champion jockey James McDonald a quick double.

ICEBATH did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when finishing third last time out in a Group I race over a mile, just under a length back from the winner and her jockey put up 0.5kgs overweight that day. She faces a wide gate fifteen, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runner over the closing stages.

YONCE on the other hand has cracked pole position and secured her sixth victory from as many starts when winning her latest outing over ten furlongs by 0.8L. She takes on stronger here, but she may well be up to the task at hand.

Race 10

With the late scratching of one of her main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, BELLUCI BABE to chalk up her seventh career victory. She won a Group 3 event over this c&d three runs back and then finished fourth in the TJ Smith (Group I) over six furlongs last time out, 5.2L adrift of the victor. She was eased out of the race at the start as a result of her wide draw, but finished off her race strongly. She gets a handy draw four and now faces her own sex and could prove difficult to topple.

Although BELLA NIPOTINA is recorded as finishing eighth last time out over 1100M, she as just under three lengths off the winner. That was against males in a Group 1 race, where she jumped awkwardly and then had to be steadied at the 200M mark. She gets draw eight and will be having her peak run after returning from a 16 week break.

MINHAAJ missed out on her hat-trick when finishing tenth in her latest outing over 1100M, 4.2L adrift of the winner, but she was returning from a 17 week absence that day and was checked at the 600m pole. She has pulled a wide draw eleven, but she should nevertheless be involved in the finish.
