Ireland vs New Zealand | Second ODI | Tuesday 12 July 2022 | The Village, Malahide, Dublin | 11:45

Ireland

Herry Tector was the talk of the town after his hundred in the series opener but the experienced top three need to contribute more to the cause.

Tector, Curtis Campher, Lorcan Tucker and George Dockerill have great ability as finishers but shouldn’t be asked tpo do all the heavy lifting.

Both teams required much of their tail but Ireland have a long history of exposing the lower order.

Campher was a surprise gamechanger with the ball too underlining the promise of this Irish side.

New Zealand

New Zealand made heavy weather of a chase they should have eaten up but their flaws made for great entertainment.

Michael Bracewell scored what would have been one of New Zealand’s greatest ODI knocks were it not for the relative weakness of the opponents.

New Zealand have also utilized a strong core of allrounders which gives them some flexibility.

Their top-order also didn’t really get going batting a fifty from Martin Guptill and that will be an area they target for improvement.

Verdict: New Zealand

New Zealand should be too strong to get caught out again.
