Race 5.

Two 4yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s best bet, ARGENTADO is taken to lead the field home. She finished second on debut over 1100M and then fifth next time out over six furlongs, 2.8L behind the winner, but she brushed the running rail at the 200M mark when having to be steadied after being denied a clear run. She returns from a 42 week break, but has had the two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing second in the latest. She faces a wide draw ten, but on the plus side, she will get 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

PRINCIPESSA was returning from a 21 week break and having her first run in Australia since arriving from New Zealand, when finishing third over six furlongs, just under a length and a half back from the winner. From her kinder draw three, she could emerge as the biggest threat to the top choice.

DATA PATCH is seldom far off the action, finishing a staying on fourth in his latest outing over 1300M, just under two and a half lengths back from the winner. He has his first run for his new trainer after returning from a 41 week break, but did finish fourth in his only barrier trial. If fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here.

Race 6.

This looks to be a tricky race F&M Handicap with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested.

GIRLS ARE READY has consistent formlines to her name and finished third last time out over seven furlongs, 0.7L back from the winner, but she came three wide into the home straight that day, costing herself valuable ground. Nevertheless, she made good late progress over the closing stages and from gate five, she should turn in another honest performance today.

YUMI missed out on her hat-trick after two victories over 1300M when finishing seventh last time out over the same trip, just over four lengths behind the winner. She jumped awkwardly that day and was immediately rested for 47 weeks. She returns here after having had the three barrier trials, winning the latest to showcase her well-being. She will have to negotiate draw nine, but she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

DESIGN ARTIST has won two of her last three runs, the latest over six furlongs when putting three lengths between her self and the opposition. She kicked clear of the field at the 200M pole and the race was over as a competition at that point. She jumps from a wide gate eleven, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 7.

KAYOBI has only had the four runs to date, but goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1300M and the latest over seven furlongs by 0.8L, this despite coming four wide approaching the home turn. He returns from a 15 week absence, but has had the benefit of a barrier trial. The gelding faces a wide draw fourteen out of fifteen, but nevertheless, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

LOHNRAKI on the other hand has cracked pole position and raced just behind the leaders before coming three wide into the home straight, only to be run out of it very late, ending up in third place last time out over 1300M, just over four and a half lengths behind the winner and on that effort, the drop in distance should be to his liking.

MAN OF REIGN put 5.3L between himself and the balance of the field to win his maiden race last time out over six furlongs. He takes on stronger here and faces a wide draw thirteen, but the gelding may well be up to the task at hand and should be included in all bets.

Race 8.

The day’s value bet, PHEARSON had his consistency rewarded with a 2.8L win last time out over 1300M, notwithstanding having to be steadied off the heels of other runners at the 1000M mark and coming three wide into the home straight, before hanging in over the final 100M. He has a wideish draw eight, but will be having his peak run after returning from a lengthy 78 week absence.

EXCELLADUS followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a third place finish next time out over the same c&d, just over five and a half lengths behind the winner. The gelding jumped awkwardly in that contest and then raced three wide without cover, but still managed to stay on well over the latter stages. He will have to deal with a wide gate eleven, but he should be doing his best work late.

SEBRENCO is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but her last two runs have been solid, the latest when finishing fourth over 1300M, just under two lengths back from the winner, but she did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 300M mark, so that effort was encouraging. She has pulled gate seven and will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice to aid her cause.
