Race 5.

There are five unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connection believe that they can win first-time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, two 4yr old and a 3yr old filly could dominate the finish to the race and complete the trifecta, but COVALENT may prove to be the best. She finished fourth on debut over 1100M and then second next time out over the same sprint trip, three lengths behind the winner. She showed plenty of toe that day and whilst returning from a 22 week rest, she has had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and winning the latest. From draw six, she should give a good account of herself here.

MRS GLOOP’S penultimate run was solid, but she was a tad disappointing next time out when finishing nineth over five furlongs, three lengths back from the winner. She has however finished second in a subsequent barrier trial and will be hoping to bounce back to her better form today. She faces a wide draw fourteen, but nevertheless, she should not be lightly dismissed.

STEEL MY THUNDER is the stable companion to the top choice who played up in the pens and then tried to go from jump to wire before ending up in eighth place last time out over five furlongs, just over five lengths off the winner. She was returning from a 24 week break that day and does have a handy draw four and will also have 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice. She makes a solid back-up for the yard.

Race 6.

SINALOA is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with a short-head victory last time out over five furlongs, when returning from a 21 week rest, which appears to be just what was needed. She battled all the way down to the wire that day and could prove difficult to topple here and as such, she is taken to be the best bet on the day’s program. She will have to negotiate gate eight, but on the plus side, she will have 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of he claiming apprentice and could give trainer Bjorn Baker the first two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

TIMPERLEY hit the front at the 200M mark and looked a winner, but was snared in the shadow of the post to be denied victory by as a short-head runner-up in his last run over 1100M. He gets a handy draw three and could be the biggest danger to the top choice.

TITAN STAR followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M with a sixth place finish next time out when stepping up to six furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. From one gate inside the latter and with a 2kgs claiming apprentice in the saddle, the gelding should be involved in the finish.

Race 7.

As with the first leg of the day’s Jackpot, there are a number of unraced runners in this contest, so the same comment in respect of keeping an eye on the betting moves applies here as well. OFFSPRING is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she finished fourth first time out over 1300M and then third over the same journey next time out, just under three lengths adrift of the winner. She raced three wide without cover that day, but still managed to stay on well over the latter stages. She has pulled gate seven and should be right up there when they hit the line.

APPETITE FOR RISK jumped awkwardly when ending up in seventh place in his latest outing over six furlongs, just under five lengths behind the winner, but has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial to boost his confidence. From his useful draw two, he should keep the top pick honest.

LOUD is another 3yr old filly in the race. She finished seventh on debut over 1100M and then made the expected improvement to finish second next time out over six furlongs, just a head back from the winner, despite hanging out in the home stretch. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate twenty, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Race 8.

The day’s value bet, DOWN TO EARTH showed marked improvement to win his maiden race last time out over seven furlongs by two and a half lengths. He kicked clear of the opposition in the home straight to win going away and whilst the gelding takes on stronger here, from a cozy draw two, he may well be up to the task at hand.

HOWLOWCANYOUGO is seldom too far off the action, finishing third in his latest outing over six furlongs, four lengths adrift of the winner, but he finished strongly from some way back that day, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He has pulled draw six and should be considered a big runner in this line-up.

OUR BLUE MOON is a 7yr old mare taking on boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three runs, the latest when second over six furlongs, just a length adrift of the victor. She was friendless in the betting markets that day, but nevertheless finished well and from a wide gate ten, she should be doing her best work late.
