Race 5

There are all of eight unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected. Of the raced runners, BOSS may prove to be the best. He is seldom too far off the action, finishing fifth in his last start over six furlongs, just under three lengths behind the winner, but he was slow away before making good late progress over the closing stages. He returns from a 27-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust, but from draw six, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

DISCREET LADY is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys and has finished third in her last two outings, the latest over 1100N, just over half a length back from the winner, but she was crowded at the start, before being chased up to race second and then stayed on well over the latter stages. She faces a wide gate fifteen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

RAZZAMA put his disappointing penultimate run behind him when ending up in second place last time out over six furlongs, one length off the winner, but it should be noted that he was badly bumped at the start that day, before trying to go from jump to wire, only to be run out of it late. The gelding has his first run after a shorter 25-week rest, but did finish third in his only barrier trial and whilst he has pulled an even wider draw eighteen, he should be included in all bets.

Race 6

A 6yr old mare and two 4yr old fillies could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but the day’s value bet, COTTON CAPER, is taken to lead the field home. She had her consistency rewarded with a three-and-a-half-length win last time out over five furlongs when delivering a powerful finish from some way back to mow down the frontrunners to win going away. She has a handy draw two and could chalk up a quick double here.

ICING ON THE CAKE has cracked pole position and followed up her penultimate run victory over five furlongs with a seventh-place finish next time out over the same c&d, four lengths adrift of the winner. She returns from a 25-week absence without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, but she will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

WANNAWINWIN has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when third over 1500M at this venue, three and a half-length adrift of the victor, despite racing wide without cover. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning, and from draw seven, she should not be lightly overlooked.

Race 7

OUTREACH TO HENRY showed marked improvement to win his maiden race last time out over 1100M at the third time of asking, putting five lengths between himself and the opposition. He was returning from a 28-week break that day, which was clearly just what he needed. He took over the lead at the 700M mark that day and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. The colt takes on stronger here, but from pole position he could well be up to the task at hand and is taken to be the best bet on the days card.

MOVIN’ DENMAN’S last three runs have yielded two seconds and a third-place finish, the latest one of those seconds over five furlongs, one length off the winner. He came wide into the home stretch that day, but battled all the way down to the wire and whilst he has a wideish draw eight, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

JUSTADUDE was crowded on the home turn and held up at the 600m pole before staying on well to finish fourth in his latest outing over 1100M, just a length behind the winner, so that effort was encouraging. He has a wide draw ten, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

Race 8

BROAD OUTLOOK has won two of his last three runs, the latest over six furlongs by 0.8L. He delivered a strong finish from a midfield position in that contest, and despite shifting out in the home straight, he hung on to claim victory. The gelding has gate seven and will be looking for his fifth career win.

IZFALLINGDOWN is a 6yr old mare taking on males, but she won her latest outing over a mile by five lengths, notwithstanding overracing in the early stages and the form of that race has been franked. She is drawn one inside the top choice and could emerge as his biggest threat. Although

MISTER SMARTEE is recorded as finishing sixth last time out over seven furlongs, he was just 1.7L behind the winner. He raced three wide that day, but still managed to stay on well over the latter stages. The gelding gets a useful gate three and seems likely to turn on another honest performance today.
