Bangladesh stomped New Zealand in the first T20 international and will look to keep their foot on the visitors' throat.

The series continues at Shere-e-Bangla which might well be bad news for batsmen.

Bangladesh vs New Zealand | Friday 3 September | Shere-e-Bangla Stadium, Dhaka | 12:00

Bangladesh

While New Zealand played poorly and the pitch played its part in the hosts series-opening win, the Bangladesh bowlers should also get some credit.

Bangladesh gave New Zealand no pace to work with up front on a sluggish wicket building pressure on the visitors. Mehedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed and Shakib-Al-Hasan fronted this smothering effort and we can expect more of the same on Friday 3 September.

The home side are fresh off a trouncing of Australia in similar conditions and will take some beating.

This match has the potential to be another low-scoring affair. In the five matches against Australia at the same venue only once did a team score more than 130 batting first.

New Zealand

New Zealand must adjust their expectations of T20 cricket for this series and be prepared to scratch and claw their way to scores.

If the tourists are put in to bat again they would do well not to panic as it seemed they did in the series opener, where their batting effort didn’t get off the ground.

The bowlers did a decent enough job of making life difficult for Bangladesh, but with just 60 on the board the outcome of the first T20I was a foregone conclusion even before the hosts came out to bat.

Young Rachin Ravindra will get an opportunity to make amends for a first-baller on debut which started the procession back to the dressing room.

Verdict: Bangladesh

The home side will be tough to beat in Dhaka.
