In terms of team rankings the two sides are number one and two in the world with India able to move ahead of England if things go their way in the series.

To Win Match

India 6/10

England 14/10

India

Virat Kohli will be eager to lead by example as India continue their Super League journey, despite being assured a place in the 2023 tournament as hosts. The India skipper found his touch in the T20I series and looks to be the dangerman.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan’s ODI match-winning credentials are not in doubt, either as a pair or individuals but much is expected of the opening batsmen.

With Jasprit Bumrah rested India will likely turn to Shardul Thakur, who enjoyed a great T20I series, to take the new ball with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. You cannot rule out India using one of their spin options in the role though.

The pitch is expected to be good for batting leaving the spinners a lot of work to do to keep England’s batsmen in check through the middle overs.

England

England will be without Jofra Archer who was a late withdrawal from the squad with injury which will place a burden upon Mark Wood to carry the pace attack.

Jason Roy has been in fine form and will look to cash in when the ball is hard and new to put the tourists on top. Jonny Bairstow should partner him up top.

There is still no Joe Root in the England ODI squad, but they have plenty of batting prospects in their middle order.

With Archer out, Reece Topley might get a rare look-in at an opportunity to impress and stake a claim for a place in the white-ball setup.

Verdict: India 6/10

The hosts should be favourite even against the world champions.
