We take a look back at the opening day of the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers being held in Zimbabwe at the moment.

Zimbabwe hosted Nepal and the West Indies played the United States of America on day one of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Harare on Sunday, 18 June 2023.

The 10-team tournament is split across two groups. The team to finish at the top of each group will qualify for the Cricket World Cup in India later this year.

Zimbabwe v Nepal

Zimbabwe beat Nepal by eight wickets at the Harare Sports Club. Nepal collected a final total of 290 for eight in 50 overs. Open Kushal Bhurtel hit 99 and wicketkeeper-batsman Aasif Sheikh 66. Seamer Richard Ngarava took four wickets and spinner Wellington Masakadza two.

Batsmen Sean Williams and Craig Ervine hit centuries in Zimbabwe’s reply of 291 for two in 41.2 overs. Ervine struck 121 not out to Williams’ two not out. Seamers Sompal Kami and Gulsan Jha took a wicket each.

West Indies v USA

The West Indies beat the United States of America by 39 runs at the Takashinga Sports Club. The West Indies reached a final total of 297 all out in 49.3 overs. Middle-order batsman Johnson Charles struck 66 and captain Shai Hope 54. All-rounders Jason Holder and Roston Chase hit 56 and 55, respectively.

Seamer Kyle Phillip and spinner Steven Taylor took three wickets each. The USA’s reply reached 258 for seven in 50 overs. Batsman Gajanand Singh hit 101 not out. Seamers Kyle Mayers and Alzarri Joseph took two wickets each.
